my hand is getting sore from clicking the redial button. Anybody got a program to do it as this is going to become more prevalent as more people join the bb world.

honestly i dont care anymore. All i want is a steady/reliable broadband package and it seems eircom (as much as i hate them) are the only one's that can provide it to me. I've been with utv and netsource and found them auwful

In fairness, ando , netsource has been pretty good since their initial troubles, had almost forgotten about them till the other night and even then other ppl were reporting problems on other isp's, and was fine the next day.

Tonight am d/l @ 104k average with em..couldn't be more happy.

Just when I was about to say, "Hey IOL seem to be getting their act together." It dies...

However is it right to blame IOL? Considering UTV are having problems? Would that not suggest a more sinister cause... Honestly? I couldn't give a damn. This is ridiculous. I mean the whole country offline?

I'm connected with IOL Surf No Limits... and check these pings out.. Even by dial up standards these are poor....

Well... Im feeling rather at a loss for things to do... :)

What time do IOL support open?

Anything below 60ms is good enough for gaming. Although sub 30 is preferred...

UTV Internet share your frustration in the loss of broadband services again this evening. Over the last few weeks we have undertaken planned maintenance to upgrade our own broadband infrastructure to try and eliminate any points of failure within our network and ensure that we can provide a high qulaity and stable service. Unfortunately, like most DSL providers, we do rely on third party infrastructure and are unable to have complete control on the integrity or resolution of faults on their infrastructure.

The problems this evening have again been througout all exchange areas and although intermittent and not affecting all users we can assure you that the problem was not on the UTV infrastructure.

We have been working all evening to help in troubleshooting and fault reporting to ensure that the fault was resolved as quickly as possible and tomorrow will be demanding a full and explicit reason for the outage and to put in place measures to prevent a re-occurrance.

Again, we apologise for the loss of service.

It would be no harm if ye put as much effort into the ping and pkt loss issues aswell .

    John.

Ps: yeah , yeah , yeah , I know this isn't the time or place , but after countless , phone calls , e-mails ( to which I have got no reply to date ) and posts to newsgroup , still all I get is " we are escalating this " and then , nothing .

    Malcolm,

It is nice to see a post like this but it is difficult not to be cynical when the post just happens to refer to a break that is not UTV's own fault. For instance there were two three hour breaks on Clicksilver on Saturday night and Sunday night 28/29th February reported here and in the newsgroup and UTV did not start investigating them (on their own admission!) until the following Monday morning. I have asked repeatedly in the newsgroup for an update on them - so how come you are posting on this one and not on the likes of those and the previous lengthy ones at weekends this year? Is it because it is easy to blame this one on someone else?

and tomorrow will be demanding a full and explicit reason for the outage and to put in place measures to prevent a re-occurrance.

Can I ask you for the same in relation to those breaks on the 28th and 29th and why were we not given an explanation before now for them?

A reliable little birdy has told me that Esat/BTs main BSN (one of these) died on them at around 6pm, killing all DSL connections over the Esat/BT network. UTV (and maybe others, I'm not sure) use parts of esats network for their DSL services, so were also effected by this. It was still down nearing midnight.

The downtime is entirely Esat/BTs fault, UTV and any other providers that use them are innocent victims in this.. it was unavoidable on their part.
