    The BEES
Plus Special Guests, The Dead 60's
    Friday 2nd of April '04
The Village, Wexford St, Dublin 2.

Tickets: €12 (inc booking fee) on sale now from Soundcellar, Road Records and usual outlets nationwide.

    Doors: 8.00pm (The Dead 60’s on-stage 8.30).

“The Bees may be two pale souls from the Isle Of Wight (namely Paul Butler and Aaron Fletcher), but their adopted musical heritage stretches all the way to Jamaica, Motown and the swamps of New Orleans …On domestic-violence lament 'Angryman; and the glacial funk of 'Sweet Like A Champion' the ghosts of everyone from JJ Cale to Hall & Oates to the Stone Roses enter the room. Comedown dole-funk to watch the sunrise to doesn't get any better”- NME.

THE BEES have always had an eye for groovier bits. Their debut album 'Sunshine Hit Me' garnered the band a 2002 Mercury Award Nomination (the year Ms. Dynamite won), a Q Award nomination for Best New Band and a hit single with their brilliant cover of Sao Paulo legends, Os Mutantes' 'A Minha Menina' (which deservedly received further attention courtesy of its use on a Citroen TV ad campaign last year).

Frequently compared to the Beta Band, this equally eclectic Isle of Wight-based duo of Paul Butler and Aaron Fletcher recorded 'Sunshine Hit Me, in their now famous production shed in the middle of a field surrounded by cows (Paul recently produced the forthcoming debut album by fellow Isle of Wight resident, Drew, there).

The release of their brand new single 'Watching the Rain' on April 12th will offer our first opportunity of what to expect from their second album, ‘Free The Bees’ (due for release in June). As will their March and April Tour which stops off for one Irish date at The Village in Dublin on Friday, April 2nd.

Don't miss THE BEES debut headline Dublin show at The Village on Friday, April 2nd. The duo are joined for the live shows by the now stable line-up of Kris Birkin (guitar), Michael Clevett (drums), Tim Parkin (trumpet) and Warren Hampshire (hammond).

Special Guests are recent EMI signings, THE DEAD 60's. “They take all the bits out of ska and have turned it into nu millennium pop. A bunch of 20-year-olds from Liverpool, they are drenched in the Specials and the Clash and the spooky ska of Jamaica. Their half hour set is stuffed full of potential chart hits, and this brilliantly named band is seriously heading for a breakthrough. They haven't taken the more obvious baggy-shorted ska-punk route but are sticking closer to a more British version of the chukka chukka beat and have bumbled into a whole new seam of inspiration to work” - Playlouder.

Tickets: €12 (inc booking fee) on sale now from Soundcellar, Ticketmaster and usual outlets nationwide. Doors: 8.00pm. Garda approved ID essential.
