Broadband router problem

    Hi,

    I have an 8 port mini-hub into which all of my PC's are plugged. I recently got broadband and plugged the modem into one of the spare ports on the hub. I then setup all of my PC's to DHCP from the modem.

    Everything is fine in that all of the PC's can access the network. However, none of the PC's can talk to each other!!....

    The default route (setup on the router is for everything to go to the internet)

    Destination = 0.0.0.0 (default)
    Gateway = Broadband (name of the ADSL profile)
    Netmask = 0.0.0.0

    I have tried adding new routes to cater for the local network, but am not having any success! Can anyone advise?

    Forgot to say that ADSL modem is an Allied Telesyn AR240E

    I presume you meant they receive they're address's from the router and not the modem?

    Router should be given out 192.168.0.X or 192.168.1.x netmask /24

    and the gateway should be the ip of the router.

    what is the local route ?

    use winipcfg or Ipconfig to see the address the PC's have been given
    Use Route Print (at the command prompt)
    then try to ping the other ip addresses
    Do the pc's have firewalls ?

    you should have a local route something like
    192.168.0.x mask 255.255.255.0 127.0.0.1

    NB. if the PC's have addresses of 169.254.x.y it means that they have NOT got a dhcp address from the router.

    [edit] it's not a ethernet modem is it - where user has to click on a link before they connect to the internet ?

    All of the PC's get their network config from DHCP from the broadband router. For example, here's the IPConfig from PC1:

    IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

    And here's its routing table:

    When I ping 192.168.1.3/4 which are two other PC's connected on the local network, they all time out. The only reason that I can think why is because the broadband router is setup (as per previous screenshot) to route everything to the internet. However, everytime that I try to add (what I think is a valid route), it gets screwed up and I have to reset the router to get rid of the route just added!

    No, its not an ethernet modem where the user has to click etc...its a router

    Any advise?

    routes look fine.. what's the 213 address in there?

    try tracert a local ip and see if it's going through the router.

    if it is, have a look at static routes maybe, or using static ip's on the client machines.. Maybe increase the metric on the 0.0.0.0 route. Try run tcpdump/ethereal to see where the ping packets are going to.

    Ok, got it....added a route as suggested, removed the unnecessarry one!....
