I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about Belfield Fm. Was it broadcasting this year? I didn't hear it. I'm also thinking about getting involved next year and was just wondering is it really hacky like everything else in UCD. does anyone kow who the new station manager is or even anyone who has worked there in the past?

Also if anyone has any information on other college radios, does it take much time, is college radio looked at seriously on a C.V. is it worth the time?
    :D

    Any information is much appreciated.

    I hate Belfield FM.
The law library overlooks it (big floor to ceiling windows) and its so loud when ever its broadcasting, impossible to study.

Go for it though, should be a laugh at any rate.

If yer into a career in radio/broadcasting, sure, go for it. But yeah, it's *really* hacky. Mainly run by spas, for spas. THey play crap music and have incredibly inane radio banter that would shed the skin of a Baboon's arse.

It was running this year, a few times. Can't say I cared.

Sounds a bit like the UCDSU and all the papers too.

    Yeah it's essentially a spin-fm clone.
    In other words - crap!

Spin is good on the first day of each month for an hour. Thats usually when they get there new songs in and play them pretty much straight through. Only problem is they 10 of the 14 songs they will play for the next month.

and only get into college radio if you actually believe Busted and Garth Gates are the best thing since.....

it's a load of ****, these people haven't heard of any 'real' genres (eg House, Deep House, Alternative....) - i mean come on, Belfield FM's CD collection must consist of all the Now!'s ever made and nothing else. WHat a load of crap!

Yeah I know what you mean. Isn't there specialised shows to cover all music?
The real problem is there has never been a female station manager!!!!!
I dunno I wouldn't mind it if i could play my own stuff and it wasn't hacky but even going to the forum is too much for me. anyone know who the station manager for next year is?

Me and one of my mates do a heavy metal show on trinity FM. Only problem is that we only broadcast a few weeks of the year which is a real pisser. News has it though that we'll be broadcasting 5 days a week when we go back to college in september so I'm looking forward to that.

Why don't they try and get a licence for all year round? At least then people might actually listen and the programming might be ok instead of the complete bollocks thats on it now. They could even broadcast thursday nite live from the student club and all the other gigs on there.

They applied for an all-year licence but couldn't get one. The radio crowd were too stingy apparently. When I signed up though I was told that we would be able to do some live shows after a while, but that never materialised.
I do enjoy what I do on it though.
