Tickets on sale now from sonar.es at a bargin 95 euro. And ryanair have just started a new service from Dublin to Barcelona-Reus (about an hour by bus from Barca). I booked my flights today for 105 euro. Lineup should be announced soon.

The eleventh edition of Sónar will be held on June 17, 18 and 19.

Gang Starr, Buck65, Madlib and Beans are at the top of a roster on which hip-hop is the big star of the year. Kid Koala, Boom Bip, Danger Mouse, Prince Po, Dabrye, Manuvers, Doily, Nobody and La Mano Fría and many more introduce a formidable line-up that also features national artists such as Tote King, Tremendo, La Excepción and Roty340, four of the most promising proposals on the national scene.

Concerts by Massive Attack and Sketch Show + Ryuichi Sakamoto = Human Audio Sponge , the name behind which are hidden the three members of the legendary Yellow Magic Orchestra, are also some of the highlights of Sónar by Night in Fira Gran Via M2.

For the second year running the L’Auditori de Barcelona will be hosting a highly original musical proposal: the Orquesta Sinfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC) will perform a selection of classical and contemporary music pieces with the intervention of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Pan Sonic and Fennesz as sound hackers.

Coinciding with the Universal Forum of Cultures Barcelona 2004, the Friday night will be called the SonarForum Night and will feature a wide range of musical proposals onto the programme that have been expressly chosen because of their geographical and stylistic diversity.

SonarMática, the festival’s multimedia showcase, will be changing venue -Capella dels Àngels- and will focus on the “micronations” universe, a cultural phenomenon that is very much in vogue.

H ip-hop is steadily gaining ground on the Sónar programme and has consolidated itself as the most varied music genre with a wide range of styles. Gang Starr is this year’s main highlight. But beyond their highly revered and canonical hip-hop, the festival will also present other live acts by artists such as Madlib, Beans, Buck65, Kid Koala, Tremendo, Nobody, Tote King, as well as some of the most extreme artists of Lex, Jazz Fudge and Botánica del Jíbaro, three record labels that have done the most to take the genre forward, with the exception of the North American Anticon.

Massive Attack will be giving one of the most much awaited concerts at Sónar by Night. A year after the release of “100th Window”, Robert “3D” del Naja is back in Spain with their show of post-matrix aesthetics that got rave reviews during their recent world tour. Other artists who will be appearing at Sónar by Night are Richie Hawtin vs. Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, So Solid Crew, Richard X, Jeff Mills, Adam Freeland, Dave Clarke, Tim Wright and Sketch Show + Ryuichi Sakamoto = Human Audio Sponge, the three members of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, who have teamed up again ten years on to give this exclusive concert for Sónar.

The first night of Sónar will be held for the second consecutive year at the L’Auditori de Barcelona. After the success reaped by the Matthew Herbert Big Band in 2003, the Orquesta Sinfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (OBC) picks up the baton and will offer a repertoire of classical and contemporary pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, John Adams, Olivier Messiaen, Sergey Prokofiev, Michael Torke and György Ligeti which will be accompanied, processed and distorted by Ryuichi Sakamoto, Pan Sonic and Fennesz, working on their instrumental and electronic machines.

The night of Friday 18 has been incorporated into the Universal Forum of Cultures Barcelona 2004 events and will be called SonarForum Night. The main programme has been selected by geographic and stylistic diversity with representatives from many different countries (Japan, Brazil, Chile, UK, Canada, France, Spain, USA...) and music genres (hip-hop, techno, minimal, underground rap, drum’n’bass, funky carioca, electronica...) which will make their appearance on the SonarClub, SonarPub and SonarPark stages. Some breathtaking names: Ryuichi Sakamoto + Sketch Show = Human Audio Sponge, So Solid Crew, Richie Hawtin vs. Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, Nego Moçambique, DJ Patife, Gang Starr and Buck65.

Sónar by Day will once again have its five regular stages, SonarVillage, SonarLab, SonarComplex, Sonarama –which is returning to the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica- and the Hall stage; as well as its other classic exhibition and discussion areas, SonarCinema, Conferences and Debates, and SonarMática, which this year is changing venue -Capella dels Àngels- and will focus on the micronations phenomenon: invented nations, virtual territories and fantasy kingdoms created by individuals and collectives.

As in previous years, Sónar by Day will present an overview of the latest trends in electronica, hip-hop, electronic pop, microhouse, electro, post-rock electronics, digital concretism and electronic jazz featuring names such as Dani Siciliano, Prefuse 73, Four Tet, Boom Bip, Danger Mouse, Apparat, Pan Sonic, Nobody, Alva Noto, Sofus Forsberg, Thomas Köner, Hans Appelqvist, Son Of Clay and Balago. The showcases will be headed by labels such as Lex (US), Ideal Recordings (SE), ****katapult (DE), Domino (UK), Botánica del Jíbaro (US), Jenka Music (DK), Accidental (UK), Gomma (DE), Komplott (SE), Eastern Developments (US), Rune Grammofon (NO), Brooklyn Beats (US), Jazz Fudge (UK) and Spa.RK (ES) among others.
