I got an odd one this morning too. Titled "Encrypted Document", it had no attachments, and a shedload of embedded ActiveX controls. Turns out it's a variant of Bagle.

I opened it in OE, but I've ActiveX controls disabled by default. I'm guessing a lot of others won't and those using webmail will be particularly vunerable.

Who the **** is creating these variants?

Wow. That's bizarre - I got an e-mail from with the same subject from a friends company e-mail address. Thing is, she left the company over two years ago and I checked her account - it doesn't exist.

Fortunately our virus checkers seem to have caught it on the Exchange end. You have to hand it to the virus writing scum, they are inventive.

Quick queston.................when you see the contents of the email in the lower half (preview pain) in Outlook, does this constitute having opened the email, or do you have to physically open it to be infected.

I have got loads of these sinceMonday, but once I updated Norton, it now transfers them into Spam, and removes all the threats.

No, the preview pane counts as having opened. Good idea and all the preview pane is, its just too risky to have it turned on.
