Tripod have begun to sytematicaly delete all of the sites that they are hosting with any thing to do with star trek on them...

    No warning is given.

A no-win situation is a possiblity that every commander may face.

    Hmm, why?
Copyright issues? Or do they just really hate star trek?

I had a radio site with some real audio on it and they deleted it too. Archives of radio broadcasts, okay it was a pirate station but still that's not TOO illegal :-)

It's actually not Tripod, but Lycos that is making these changes. Everything on Tripod and Angel fire is being removed. The following things that will get your site terminated are:
1 - Fan pages - TV series photo galleries, fanfic, anything along those
    lines.
2 - Author pages promoting original work.
3 - Pages relating to the disabled
4 - Memorial pages for family or friends (children, husband/wife, pet
    memorials etc.)
    5 - Family photo galleries.
6 - Anything that seems to carry a copyrighted work. Doesn't matter if the
copyrighte belongs to the page owner or not.
7 - and of course anything that violates their TOS or has even remotely sexually related material on it
It sucks big time, and I don't excatly know why Lycos is doing this, however a number of boycotts have already been started. If your site hasn't been shut down by now, it will be in the next week.

More info from a mailing list:

Not to be an alarmist, but I ran across this on another ML. (I do not
claim any personal knowledge. In this case, all I am doing is relaying
some "interesting" information.) If anyone can counter this, let me know.
I will relay back to the other ML.

Lycos is on full damage control now. smile.gif

They even made primetime news here. Appears they deleted tons of sites by accident (or so they claim).

Pages relating to the disabled? wtf??!?!?! I had a load of images hosted there and they just deleted the lot saying it was a breach of their tos, i was only linking the odd one here and there. VVankers.

    just like this I suppose...

    Dear Tripod Member,

We apologize for the removal of your site over the weekend. Due to some technical errors, we mistakenly removed several member sites and are in the process of restoring them. We did not single out you or your site, please accept our apologies, your site has now been restored.

    Sincerely,

    The Tripod Team
