I think Bonkey is a pretty fair Moderator altogether.
Everyone can be influenced by their own beliefs at times but i think Bonkey was certainly correct to close the thread.
He is always willing to leave a contentious thread open for a time to "see where it goes"

The original poster only posts when he has a new 'event' to advertise and otherwise adds nothing to the politics board.

He posted a link to site which advocated & encouraged valdalism/destruction of public and privately owned property (spray-painting).

I'll second that. The fact that he's moderating his board enough to worry about the possibility of litigious consequences arising from threads merely shows that's he doing his job more than adequately. Having a browse through his forum and you'll see that he's also an active participant who has helped spur on the discussion using well formed posts. He'd be one of the very last moderators that I've ever think I'd have reason to question.

HAH! that alone has made this thread worthwhile,so what happens now does this user get banned for having multiple accounts to circumvent a ban?

He has a short while to come along here and convince me that I'm wrong, if only for the amusement value.

    Oh the irony... :p

But, you see, the thread was not gone off-topic, at all. We were discussing how we would like to see the mayday events policed.

There were a few opinions which weren't right-on enough for Bonkey and he closed the thread.

Looking at the rest of the posts from the Moderators here it seems like you've got a real Soviet politburo going here and anyone poor newbie who steps out of the Party line gets stomped on.

Is this site a front for the Socialist Worker's Party?

My magic eight-ball says "probably not".

It definitely isn't run by anarchists - it's a little too organised for that. Don't you think it's a little ironic that someone who proposed using batons on protestors for the sheer hell of it is making bad analogies about Soviet politburos?

    Don’t be silly boy.

I’ve already stated that I wouldn’t shed too many tears if many of the more militant protestors had accidents, but I didn’t say so in the thread in question because it is in fact illegal to advocate violence. Bonkey was perfectly correct in shutting down the thread for that reason, which he gave here and is perfectly plausible. You’ve neglected to address this point.

Now this “you don’t agree with me, so you must all be Socialist Workers” line is a little childish don’t you think? Especially as it would not take too long looking over past posts to see that this is far from the case.

You said a bad thing and the thread got closed. Be a big boy and deal with it.

Come see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help I'm being oppressed!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭mr_angry

I did a gathering card a while back to the same effect.

echomadman assures me its meant to read "repressed", and was very annoyed. I said I'd change it, but I'm lazy, so there it is again.

The Politics forum. Boycotted it a long time ago due to my low opinion of one of its most overbearing Moderators. Its a hothouse not worthy of any sensible or fair minded posters attention.

Anyone silly enough too expect a fair hearing there needs their head examined.

Nice to see how heartfelt all Paddy20's "let bygones be bygones" words were when he gave them to the various mods of the politics board the last time that subject came up.

    Thats my day ruined.

Actually, I've always found the Politics mods to be fair, even when I don't totally agree. They've got one of the toughest forums on boards, and the look after it well.

God be with the days when the May Day parade consisted of innocent children singing hymns preceeding a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary borne on the shoulders of their proud parents. I didn't really agree with the God bothering bit but at least no-one went home with a split head. :(

Ah Paddy's just sulking because we locked a thread of his a while ago and didn't unlock it despite him discussing it to death with me and bonkey via PM (somehow swiss was denied this pleasure!!).

As bonkey says this outburst is surprising as he sent a PM to us saying that we should all start a new slate. Must dig up that PM.

    Gandalf.

(btw Paddy still haven't been sorted whats keeping you ?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭Paddy20

    Gandalf,

You were and still are wrong for locking my 'Smoking ban thread'. At least one of your colleagues had the manners to respond in a polite and adult manner too my PM's.

However, not a word from you. I was not surprised as you were the Moderator who locked my thread as "it had run its course" according to you. Yet the subject is still news. ?...

Your Avatar and the words underneath say it all. No need for any further comment from me as to my opinion of your type of moderating, and I will continue boycotting the Politics forum unless I receive an apology from you for making public what I believed to be a private PM from me to you. Your childish arrogance is obvious, and a dissapointment. I will bide my time until your name no longer appears as a Moderator of the Politics forum.

    P. :ninja:

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Firstly I did engage in a series of lenghty PM's with you and they were polite and to the point. If you want I can publish them all here so less of your lying please.

The thread had run its course because you and others kept regurgitating the same old arguements without answering specific points others had posted. And the decision to close your thread was taken in unison by the 3 mods of politics.

You will not receive an apology from me ever Paddy afterall you are the person that said you would take care of me like the old mods of IOFFL, I am still waiting.

The only child I see is here, still having a tantrum because he didn't get his way months ago.

Bide your time Paddy I believe its more on my side than yours.

    Gandalf.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,797 ✭✭✭Paddy20

    Gandalf,

I have not been holding my breath awaiting an apology from someone like you. Now do me a favour and stick to your 'Clint Eastwood outdated mode' as you have already made my day :p .

I just genuinely feel sorry for those who still have to put up with your self righteous attitude on the forums where you moderate.

I also do not appreciate being called a 'liar' by you. Publish whatever you 'selectively' please, as you have already proven you enjoy, editing and only publishing that which suits your purpose. Which imho is not honourable. No doubt someone will eventually take the time too show you up for the arrogant ill mannered bully that you really are.

Now run along and play with your football.

As for me. I really do not consider you worthy of any more of my attention.

I think you should go further Paddy20. Make a stronger statement by boycotting the whole of boards.ie. It'll certainly make you more "popular".

Why don't you go into your sent PMs and publish what you sent if your so paranoid?

Thats right. Lets have another Mods defending Mods [in this case poor Gandalf] feeding frenzy of insults against the poster who has an issue with said Moderator.

Just typical  but not impressive.
