Billyjoe???? I really like green day but come on hardly a brilliant guitarist. He plays punk rock.most of the songs are a few chords over and over. Green day songs were some of the first songs i ever learned on guitar!! Nah billyjoe aoint no where near the top 5 guitarists.

Probably two of the worst guitarists who've ever lived, in my opinion.

    Page, Hendrix, and Zappa probly.

As for current guitarists, John Ferschanti is pretty slick.

Too many to mention, at least in terms of technical proficiency, so I'll just pick my own favourite:

    John Petrucci

He was mentioned once already, actually.

    Anyway...

There are more skilled guitarists, and there are more versatile guitarists, but they're not nearly as much fun to watch playing. Angus gets my vote.

Jimi Hendrix (the man played with his teeth.. what more do u want? :))
    Eric Clapton
Timmy Reynolds- saw him live from a about a foot away, (shook his hand to-it was awesome) neway.. this tiny little man-standing still with his hands flying everywhere creating this unbelivable music... blows my mind watching him

    Satriani all the way :)

i've never heard such beauty translated through music.

not to mention he is technically amazing..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭Devilman

How can you name just one ?? there have been so many through the years...

These are not picked on technical ability (even though some are technically amazing) , but how they were able to get me into their music and influence my own playing..

    in no particular order

Chuck Shuldiner ( symbolic thanks for recognizing a great .... )
    James Hetfield
    Tony Iommi
    Jerry Cantrell
    Warren Haynes
    Rory Gallagher
    David Gilmour
    Brian May
Jason Becker ( a shame such an amazing musician was cut down before he fulfilled his potential )
    Randy Rhodes & Zakk Wylde
    Angus Young
    Kim Thayil

    OH

    And

    Hendrix / Page & Clapton :D

...and yet there are many more who could / should have been included but I havent got time to write that long a list lol

I saw Clapton last night at the point. Unbelieveable! Anyone who thinks he's makes no effort doesn't understand he makes it look easy! Words can't descibe it, jaws were hittin the deck everywhere. The man owns the fretboard! Has to be one of my all time favourites. A lot of respect to Rory Gallagher/Young/Page.

    Jimmy Page......in that order

Originally the best session guy in England (at age of 18)
Mastered the blues and turned it into blues rock (spawned millions of other bands)
One of best english folk guitarists (Bron yr Aur on DVD)
Developed loads or weird alternate tunings
Only one Zep song (i think) that he didn't really have input (All My Love)
Always experimenting, creating new sounds (playing with indian orchestra for example)
    Produced all Zep albums
    Epitome of Guitar Hero

Think he often gets overlooked cos he's still alive and didn't die in his prime.
