I signed up for the high speed option, I read the contract.

You would only be tied into another year if you signed for the high speed option, otherwise you were put on the slower (ie, same option) for cheaper price. You didn't have to sign anything to do this.

No, sorry Hobbes, both options required you to stay with UTV for another 12 months.
Try and read the details more thoroughly before you sign anything in the future :)

And UTV have confirmed (and defended!) this many times since it was announced.

Did last night's upgrades actually take place then? And did they fix the problems?

Yep, but lets see for how long

How are pings this morning? (me is at work)
I wonder if they'll go mental between 7 and 11 again tonight.

It was sneakier than that. The new contract has different terms and conditions and so you were not merely extending the previous one for a further 12 months.

And YES, you had to take out a new (and different) contract in order to avail of either the €29.99 (48:1) or the €45.00 (24:1) service.

If you did not want to do this, the only option was to continue to pay €47.50 for a 48:1 service.

Well it seems that the wait was worth it. D/L speeds with me now at 430/53 , Jolt pings around 37ms

Nice work hope it lasts. Anyhow thanks to Martin et al at UTV for the work and listening to all the rants from down here!!

    Cheers

Your house must be inside the exchange . My pings are still on the high side of normal .

    John.

    Hi all,

No jonski I'm nowhere near the exchange quite the opposite, on the furthest extremity I would think.

jolt pings average now (6.35pm) 39ms..

Seems fine to me, Terenure exchange BTW.

Lets be fair after all the bitching we have all done over the past weeks, the UTV folks seem to have eventually come up trumps. So I have no problem in congratulating them on what appears to have been a difficult job well done.

So... Thanks Martin & Malcom et al.

    Not "perfect" for everyone though:

Pings are good but I'm getting lots of packet loss :(

Download speed is very poor too from any server, barely reaching 35kB/s for me since the "fix".

290kbps is the best from Giganews & 294kbps on UTV's own speed test.

The service is better but nowhere near where it was for me & still unacceptable.

Another call to UTV support me thinks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 430 ✭✭Aepos

Sorry Kramer that your speeds etc. are still not good after the modifications and engineering works.

My download stats from Giganews are between 405 and 415 at the moment (9.10pm) which I would assume is peak time more or less. Jolt pings are now around 42ms .

Its a pity more people are not letting us know on this forum how UTV Clicksilver is working now.

It seems to have gone very quiet......

Its working fine here. I haven't bothered with any of those speed tests, my downloads are whipping along at around 40-50KB/sec - depending on the source.

    Yeah , sorry ,

I am one of the ones that should have posted sooner ,

My Dos pings are in the 70's , which to be fair to UTV are back where they were before all this trouble began . Cross and all as I sometimes seem to get , all credit to Martin for all his efforts over the last few days . I still think that UTV's position at the table is weak , but there is nothing that can be done about that .

As for my pings , I am happy they are back the way they were , but disapointed that they haven't come down another bit , 70 ingame would be nice . My phone line is newish enough , and my pings on 56k on eircom or elive were fantastic , 120/140 . When I went over to UTV 56k they jumped to 180 .

We saw last night how quick Martin could fix something when it was a problem within UTV , we know from reading here that esat and eircom , give good pings . That only leaves nevadatel/energis , and I firmly believe that this is where the problem lies . From reading another thread somewhere abouts on boards , I saw a tracert that shows the ip's of the 'hops' that always seem to give me the highest pings are they were within the nevada/energis network .

Having said that then ye should all be having the same problems , and ye don't . Wish I was a bit more tech savvy .

    John.

    Hairball,

I just tested both servers (40 and 60) and 40 gives me 3mbps and 60 gives me 7kbps..... Sort of suggests a problem on giganews's side.

I have found Giganews to be very accurate, perhaps you just got them at a bad moment or maybe it's caching issues?

take a look at this and try and persuade me not to break my contract:

It would be nice to have a bit more info. Like were you on a 14,400 modem, when was the grab taken, were you actually on Clicksilver etc? Even when things were bad it was never that bad for me.

Speeds are back to normal for me and a little above on some occassions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,394 ✭✭✭jonski

I'm getting circa 370 from both giganews and utv's own speedtest atm .

  • Registered Users Posts: 980 ✭✭✭hairball

Valentia: I'm on Clicksilver 's 47.50 per month package, I haven't migrated too either of the other packages because I don't see the point in subscribing to another 12 months when things are this bad.
This grab is not the first time this has happened...It' had actually frozen there
this is just representative of what's been happening to my connection for the past month or more, it's been up and down like a yo-yo...sometimes great...but mostly sub 200kbps ..and it's just not good enough....give me one good reason why I should pay for this service when it's a ridiculously bad as this.
Paul I understand there's been issues of late.and that equipment replacement that happened but I've been getting bad speeds for the past month, and it's not just giganews, it's your own speedtest as well, granted it seems to be running fine today,
but what about the next time I go to play a game online and my pings are through the roof???
I really hope you guys can get it fixed soon, because I find your telephony service to be excellent and I would like to stay with you, if these issues can be sorted(maybe they are now...we'll see) you would surely have the best package on offer of all the ISPs
