    Found this site after googling for a bit. It explains how to stop XP from automatically expanding trees on the left hand side of Explorer when you click on a folder. I found it slightly annoying when the folders automatically expanded, thought some of you might find it useful!

    in regedit, go to:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
    "FriendlyTree"=dword:00000000

    ...and then modify the value data from "1" to "0".

    You can also change that in

    Windows Explorer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> untick "Display Simple Folder View In Explorer's Folder View"

    without editing the registry.

    Yep that's the first thing I change on a fresh XP install... even before I've gotten video drivers installed.
