Right time for a poll to get some idea if the much talked about reductions in rates has actually happened, and if so to what degree.

If you dont want to talk Euro and cent then indicate the percentage fall.

edit> I fvcked up the poll but I guess not many ppl will have seen the rate fall by more than 20%!

    Mike.

Mine has fallen from 1500 to 1000 - a reduction of 33%. I think three things have contributed to this reduction
    1) I'm a year older
    2) I have more NCD than I did last year
    3) There seems to be a general reduction in premiums (due to less accidents, introduction of penalty points etc.)

I just got a letter from AA insurance and my premium has - wait for it -
    Doubled to €1700

Now, did i have a accident i don't know about or something?

I'm dying to call them to ask them this but of course they are not there now.

Just went to Insure.ie and got a quote of €750.

Definitely staying in the UK now. I thought it would have gone down more than that

Been insured for the last few years with the AA (consistently cheaper than all others)
Oct 2002 - 2003 - €609 (because of their cock up, this quote had dropped from a quote of €780 & I gained an extra 10 days :D)
    Oct 2003-2004 - €600
    89 BMW 320i (1990cc)

currently want to change car (maybe tomorrow :D). Insurance differences till Oct 10th were:-
    1997/98 523i €200
    1997/98 528i €250
    1989 635CSiA €250
    1996 540i €600
(I can go up to 3.5L without being punished but get the 540i V8 & Im fecked - doesn't really make sense but at least they aren't bad prices for this poxy country)

Mine went down by about 100 Euro and I had a claim during the insured period. Twas a hit and run but 3,000 worth of damage on a 02 A4 2l.

    I couldn't believe it.

Mine dropped from €1170 to €830, which is nearly 30%. Mind you, I switched insurer too. My old insurer quoted me €929, which is still a 20% drop.

This is a big drop! My first (commercial vehicle) insurance was €2500 last year, which jumped up to €3500 when I moved to Dublin half way through my first year on the insurance. Recently renewed it for €1497!! Yes, that €2000 of a drop on my second year! Amazing, and totally unexpected!

    €250 increase.

    11.4%

    :(

    For no reason at all.

Just called the AA and they went to check it out.
Seems that the company i was insured with last year through them loaded my car this year a lot more than last year.
So she had a look around to other companies and got me
    wait for it ----

€660 fully comp and no claims bonus protection.
Now if i didnt call AA would have lost a customer - Thats poor quality control there.

I don't have a car but based on quotes I've looked up I'd say that my premium for a 1 litre hair-dryer-on-wheels (no offence to small car drivers intended) has gone down by a few hundred euro in the last 12 months. This is mainly due to my being a year older.

I have just upgraded to a 1.4Ltr escort and they have increased my payments by almost 50 % from €85 to €135 per month.

Is this normal? sounds a bit stiff.

I am 29. Male Full licence 7+yrs Will have 1 years ncb in July.

Should I stick with them till july or change now?

    thanks

Thats a big jump even if your last car was a 1 ltr engine.

Given the falls in rates I'd be looking for a very small hike. Start phoning round!

    Mike.

try www.insure.ie just to give yourself a ballpark figure and then call around to see if you can get better.

NEVER stay with your current insurer without checking to see if you can get cheaper elsewhere first. That only fuels the rip-off prices.

Sound advice. Always ring around and ring them ALL, including brokers. You might be surprised :)

Had an accident about 4.5 years ago so mine is just coming back to normal.

Down by €650 to just over €1900 fully comp with my 2 parents as named drivers
and all the extras included, windscreen, breakdown assist, ncb protection etc etc etc..

Without the 2 named drivers all the extras its around the €1650 mark..

So all in all Im happy with that... (well as happy as I could be as its dropped by about 60% in the last 3 years..

Seems the problem is that I have to have a years NCB before I can get a reasonable quote.

I put in that I had 1 year NCB and came back at €1200. Put in less than a year it said €2000

Looks like I will need to stay with Royal and Sun alliance till my year is up whic is in july.

    Are there any other options?

No. Until you have a years NCB its unlikely anyone else will touch you.

    Mike.

Mine went from 1450 last year to 720 this year.
If i had stayed with the insurance company i was with i was quoted 980 but shopped around as usual and got 720.

So big drop for only one years extra NCD. Im 23 female driving 1.4 engine, Full Comprehensive with the extra's.

I am currently paying €1200 for a 2litre98 Hyundai Coupe and am 29. It came down by €200 last time. Still expensive. Luckily I live in Monaghan rather than Louth where it would have been €1550 this year !
