Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just for anyone not watching, the first half was the best 45 minutes of football I've seen this season.

2-0 Deportivo and poised at 3-4 to milan on Agg.

    Great game....go watch it..now!!!

    Go on!

    now!

I heard someone saying today that if you put Milan's back 4 in Real jerseys they would be unbeatable, maybe the centre halfs but certainly not the full backs. Cafu is having a nightmare.

Well done Depor, they deserved to go through after the way Milan let themselves down tonight.
    Terrible.
I'm disgusted with the way Milan played.
REally can't believe a team can go from world class to nightmere standard in two weeks.
This has to be the biggest upset of the year.
    Again, well done Depor.

I like Milan, I don't really like Depor, but I was cheering on the Spanish side. What a performance. Four goals against Milan is unreal.

I think Depor might win the whole thing now.

Watched it on an Italian station, just trying to figure out which words they were using translate to "useless"

Deportivo deserved their 4 goals m admitidly the 4th was a tad lucky but they denied Milan a sniff all game.

According to the RTE commentary, their the first team to score 4 against them in CL in 8 seasons.

I,ll leave it at that and let those that want to talk abot the match continue.

    Great game
    Congrats Derpo

What a **** performance tonight. Totally deserved to lose. With all these quality teams(excluding Arsenal) out of the CL, not making it as exciting as is expected.

    No it doesnt.

Milan are an established world class team who have won numerous European Cups.

Arsenal are not. They bottled it last season and they have done it again. They have never achieved anything to make them a great team.

    I agree.

Did this merit a new thread?
As for it not being as exciting anymore, last seasons final was hardly end to end attacking football and flair.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 91 ✭✭Unexpected

It just drains the CL. No Real Madrid, No AC, No Juventus, No Man Utd, No Bayern Munich.

Just ****ty Monaco, Porto(respect given for beating Utd but .....), Chelsea and Deportivo.

Depo were class tonight but come on. Monaco beat them 8 - 2(or was it 3) back in the qualifying stages.

    What a boring tournament.

I think it's brillant. who says that it's a poorer competition if the usual suspects are not in it. It's great to see the likes of Deportivo, Monaco and Porto in the semi finals. Just goes to show that a lot of these so called top teams are a load of hot air.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,300 ✭✭✭✭Seaneh

Actually, I take back my agreement.
This is what knockout comps are about.
Millwal in the FA Cup final.
    Kiev in the CL semi's.
    Leeds in the CL semi's.
Korea and Turky in the WC semis...
Germany in the WC Final (with a dire team).
it means that "the best on the night" goes through.
And If a group of players can pull the attuide together and play above thier abilities for 90 mins, then fair play to the, and good luck in the next game.
I honestly hope it's a Monaco Vs. Porto final... Just because nobody thought it could happen.

What the hell is exciting about the same teams playing one another all the time and a lifeless 0-0 final??
This is what football is all about!

Which is exactly why it puts it in perspective...

    Amazing result.

How does that put it into perspective? It doesn't.

What it puts into perspective is it could have been Wengers best chance to win the Champions League with Arsenal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

I cant believe Milan played so badly tonight. What the hell was up with the defense?! They were worse than Leeds on a bad day. But in fairness to Depor, they defended solidly, didn't give away the ball needlessly and attacked brilliantly. They didnt give Milan an inch all game.

Come on you Chelsea. and liverpool on good friday of course

didnt see the game but im after hearing depo deserved
    did milan bottle it?

You cant think of it like that same could be siad about all teams whi got knocked out before

my new bet is on monaco :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

Yes Milan totally bottled it. They were like a bag of rabbits caught in a bag of headlights. Man thats some simile ! My English teacher would have been proud of me. Inzaghi had a great chance near the end but blew it.

I am disgusted with Meelan. Fair play Depor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,312 ✭✭✭mr_angry

That was the most incredible performance I have ever seen. Reminds me a bit of Valencia 4-1 Barcelona a couple of years back. The fact is, there was NOTHING Milan could do against that performance - absolutely nothing. And I challenge you to find a team that could. Deportivo simply didn't give Milan a chance. Look at the way they closed down Milan when they lost posession - there were 3 players converging on the one AC player in posession, and they kept that up for 90 minutes. Plus, their ability to retain posession themselves was awesome. Some of the passing exchanges were breathtaking. I thought Valeron was going to score goal of the season when Pandiani sent it back into his path. Looks like they aren't missing Roy Makaay too much! :)

I'm desperately trying to hunt down the thread a month or so ago where I predicted Deportivo would go all the way. Of course, I got every other result wrong, but hey - one out of sixteen ain't bad!

On the contrary, the teams playing the best, most exciting football are going through. Look at some of the aggregate scores: 5-5, 5-4, 4-2, 3-2. Loads of goals, hardly boring football!

Deportivo gave the world, not just Milan, a lesson in how to play football properly there tonight.

    No. It doesn't.

Milan were/still are a world class team. Arsenal are not/were not.

My point is: Milan got knocked out. So by you saying "it puts yesterday into perspective", I disagree because Arsenal were knocked out and they are not/were not a world class team.

If this is just too confusing. I apologise for making it that way.

what makes a world class team?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Deportivo have gone from 40 to win the CL to 2/1 in 2 hours.:D I'd say a few Depor fans put them on.

    Easy.

Winning the CL and dominating your countrys domestic trophys.

PS: You get my point dont you regardless of whether or not we have different opinions on what makes a world class team ya?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13,018 ✭✭✭✭jank

yea i agree been a quite surprising tournament and all thanks to the new knock out second stage!

there will be a new european champion at the end of may

sometimes the best team in europe doesnt win the CL
    it just happens

    edit:

oops just found out porto won it in 1986 "Bayern 1-2 Porto "
