Teaching with an arts degree

I'm currently doing my leaving cert and am interested in doing an arts degree in trinity next year (to keep my options open), one of the things im thinking about after that is to go into teaching. what extra courses would i need to do for this after i get an arts degree? any help would be greatly appreciated.

The normal route is to go into the postgrad Higher Diploma in Education (H Dip Ed) course
