lovely car Unkel - always pondered picking up one of those, but I think having to hand over the Road Tax would kill me.

It's a 735iA, with 3.5l V8. Tax is bad, anything 3000cc and more is €1343. Insurance doesn't seem to matter for me much what car I get. Comprehensive insurance went down about 10% compared to my previous car that was smaller, with a smaller engine and worth a lot less

Any large saloon car with an engine over 2.5l and a value of up to about €25k seems to be the same insurance (even a Rolls Royce with 6.75l V8 - have checked this)

Maintenance is not too bad. I have the car serviced by a small family owned garage that specialise in BMW and Merc. They are very reasonable and more importantly, I trust them. Tyres are expensive, but my mileage is not high

With mainly Dublin area traffic, I do slightly better than 20MPG

The equivalent version of my car with full spec now is about €120k  Dunno why people buy something like that, but I'm not complaining :)

Actually Unkel, you should probably post a link to the pics as opposed to using the img tags. It'd be kinder to people on 56k modems and they'd be more likely to view them. Give a file size also.
Then you'll get even more plaudits :D

Nice car but next time link the images and definitely resize down anything you post up in IMG tags. They're over half a meg combined.

LOL, I shall take that as a compliment then ;)

leeroybrown, have been on 56k (and lower) for many years myself, so I did limit the file sizes. Total for the 4 pictures is half a MB, so about 1 min download time

Suppose some people can't wait that long :)

very nice! except this singing boy on the screen :)

    Hi unkel

Nice car. Have picked up a 316i which is my first step into BMW's. Any chance that you will mention the family owned garage that did the service for you. After 4 month's my baby is due some attention.

    Thank's in advance

unkle you flash git you! :D

I bet NO-ONE lets you out of side roads into traffic! (apparently big BMWs have this effect on ppl who drive tiny boxes)

The pix are too big to view on my 600x800 res so pleeeeeze make' em smaller (think of the sad 56k-ers).

    Mike.

    Oh yes nice wheels... :)

I actually do the oposite as most bmw drivers wont slow you down and you have something to look at when you are stuck in traffic :D

Have a look at www.bmwcarclubgb.co.uk/ireland - there are a number of BMW specialists listed in the contacts page

I can see that you've knoecked down the file size a bit but 1t wouldn't have hurt to resize them down from 1600x1200. The file size doesn't really affect me at all as I'm sitting at the end of a 10Mbit line here (0.5 second download time) buton 56k it would be a killer. What gets me is that I've got to scroll over to see them even though I'm at 1280x1024 ;)

 Wanna trade your line for my motor ;)

Points taken - have decreased dimensions (now 1024*768) and size (total now 240KB) of the pictures :)

Well people what can I say? Thank you all very much for all those lovely comments

    Here some specific replies:

Aye tox, I believe your annual mileage is pretty high - 20MPG would be a killer for ya. You could always dream / think about a E39 (just replaced model) 530 diesel. Was thinking about getting one myself, but just couldn't afford the going rate for them. As said, maintenance is not too bad at all :)

Already planning my next car: an E60 (latest model 5 series) 535d. Don't like the looks of the car at all yet, but I'm confident it will grow on me.....

Ta Lainey, have never seen any person on boards.ie with 40 posts per day, you must like it here

bigtimecharlie and Chief---, have PM'd you details of the garage - hope it works out as well for ya as it has for me, these guys are sound as a pound

The car was registered in October 1996 in the UK and given a once over by an aftermarket company. They de-badged the car, installed a Nokia carkit, lowered the body and stiffened the suspension, replaced the brake discs with massive ones and changed the wheels for 18" BMW original alloys with 245/45 tyres. The stickers they left behind marketing their company were the first things to go during my ownership ;)

I bought the car from the company director that imported the car into this country in May 2001

Still thinking about that one, it's happened and it hasn't :dunno: I am generally a very courteous driver myself, letting people in and trying to be as smooth as possible. Can't stand ignorant drivers though and there are many of those about as I need not tell you guys

ROFL - it's got a connection for dvd but ;)

Most people I tell the car's got a telly say something like "oh yeah, you need that" followed by:

They are right of course. Mind the teletext is coming in dead handy when picking up people from Dublin airport. Park along one of the roads in the airport somewhere, keep checking the teletext for the time they landed. Ring them 10 - 15 minutes later and tell them to go to departures where you'll pick them up. No paying for parking, no carrying around luggage, no wasting time. Sweet :)
