Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey All,

I'm off to Oz in a few days and just wondering what is the best thing to do with bringing/transferring money. I was told to open a bank account when I am over there as taking money out from ATMs costs you a fortune in the long run. If I do open an account how do I get the money from my AIB account to the new one?

I'd appreciate if anyone can give me some tips on what is the best way to go about managing your money to avoid hassle and extra charges etc.

    Thanks.

you may run into problems opening an account if you have just arrived in the country, you may need to have a fixed address and a job. Not sure but you can ask in any bank over there or maybe even ring them from here to see what you need.

Withdrawing money from the bank will cost you about 1.27Euro per 100 or 200 euro withdrawn each time (plus the exchange rate is slightly less than what is stated in the paper), I'm just back from hols in oz and that's what it cost me. A credit card is a handy thing to have too, I used mine a lot.

As for transferring money, if you have some 24hour banking set up in Ireland with your bank you can ring them from oz and they will transfer the money to the oz account once you have all the relevant sort codes and a/c codes, again give them a ring before you go and see what they say.

Pick up a international call card over there for about 10aus dollars and it will last you hours for ringing home. I never used up my credit for all the calls I made home.
