I've been considering buying proper chips for a while now.
    Anyone got any suggestions?

I'd need enough chips to allow for 8 or so players

The best place I have found is ebay.co.uk. One of my mates got 500 chips in a case 39GBP for the chip & case 29GBP for delivery (they are very heavy and come by DLH from China) Do a search on ebay for poker chips, there are a couple of traders selling them. They also have sets of 300. I have been unable to find anywhere cheaper.

Myself and quozl got chips from the UK for €100 incl delivery. 300 chips and 2 packs of decent (not quite KEM) cards. I think it was www.pokerchips.co.uk or something, do a search of the poker forum, its been mentioned a couple of times.

www.drinkstuff.com if you want to buy the chips they use on "late night poker" around £100. Nice set if you are willing to spend that little bit more.

The "Late Night Poker Pack" are not the chips they used on Late Night Poker. Those chips were yellow and red chips and had "Late Night Poker" written of the side of them.. Cheek of them.

i got one of the alluminium case from ebay.co.uk
shipped over from china and watch for the postage prices.
ended up around €100 in total.

make sure you get the heavier 11.5 gramme ones.
i went for the 4gram... they are kinda crappy.

Was it from finearts155 or some similar user name? I ordered a set of 500 11.5g chips in a black leather case form him in China and find them to be excellent chips. The only downside is they seem to be a bit slippy or something which makes it hard to do some of the tricks Lafortezza does with his :) Also the 500 in their case weigh a bleedin' tonne so the shipping is round about as expensive as the chips themselves.

also he advertised that you could choose the denominations

No offence cormie but you can get the same set with 500 chips from several people on ebay for around €100. OK, you have to contend with dodgy english but these guys are established trader with very good reputations. I personally know 3 people who have bought them.

I ordered a set off that Chinese guy and paid a couple of days ago, haven't heard anything since. Is this his normal mode of operation and the chips will (hopefully) just turn up?

It's 325 and 99% positive so it should be ok, was just wondering about the lack of communication, mind you his English doesn't seem to be the Mae West i.e. 'to make your poker games more stimulative' :)

I jsut assumed he was the same lad that Decker (I think) ordered off of.

bought set of 500 11.5 gram chips from finearts155 on ebay.co.uk. reasonable price (€145 including delivery) and they arrived within 5 days. really excellent chips, and last time I checked they were even cheaper. come in a nice case too. you can get them even cheaper if you don't want them customized. probably worth the extra ten euro to choose your own colours though.

Are they slippy? Rounded edges or squared?

The best chips I've seen to date are Hyzephers that he used at the cash game in LaFortezza's at the BSOP final. They were a little lighter and more rounded then Lukes but I prefer that personally. They felt more like the chips used in the Fitz.

They're the 11.5g ones, in a metal box, identical to the ones kencleary (?) had at your place that time Tom. The night of the quick buyin tournaments etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,836 ✭✭✭✭cormie

the tourny chips or the cash game chips? the cash game chips, the €1 ones anyway (I completely forget if they are all the same or what) well some have bits chipped off. does Hsyefer (spelling) go to fitz? who is he?

I should be getting samples of a supplier this week and will decide whick standard I will be getting but we will be selling sets soon will post up info when all is finalised.

The chips could possibly be the exact same as the ones the fitz use in their free games, which I think are a very good chip. I agree with Dev there are some chips that are square edged and are slippy aswell, however if I am winning them I dont really care what they feel or look like

I think the general casino chip is an 8gm chip. As consumers we of course follow the hype about the 11.5gm chip being the authentic this and that but in the end the 8gm is fine.

If you meet him, don't let him stand behind you, he's sly about it so watch out.

I thought it was Henbane we're not supposed to let stand behind us? :)

11gm are injected, not real clay chips. 8gm are the real clay chips as far as I know. I do like the fitz ones alright. the cash game ones now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,524 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

So what type of chips where we playing with in Mr Puddings house for the BSOP heat 3?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,788 ✭✭✭MrPudding

    They were Luke's 11.5gram, clay I think.

Of all the fancy chips we've used the best ones so far I think were Hyzephers cash ones. They have a nice weight and rounded edges so chip tricks were easier to do with them and they didnt make you worry about cracking the glass with them when I casually toss out a big bluffing bet :)

The best I've seen anywhere would be the Fitz cash game chips, they're lovely!
