Do UTV actually care?

The service tonight seems to be ( for a number of people anyways) at least as bad as it was during the pre Easter fiasco.

Given that UTV's reputation took a severe hammering during that period wouldnt it be reasonable to expect the following from any Company that was concerned about (a) its customers and (b) its reputation.

    (1) a very close monitoring of the quality of service being received by its customers after the 'fix' . ( There was an assurance given in the UTV support group that the fix would take care of all the problems that UTV's customers had been experiencing)

    (2) A rapid response to any indication that things were not as they should be.

I dont think that would be expecting a whole lot and what do we get? sweet nothing.

Several people have reported that UTV support are oblivious to the fact that there are problems which would suggest that nobody at UTV is monitoring the performance of Clicksilver and there has been no response in the UTV support group from UTV to any of the 'new' complaints there over the past few days. And now it is proving very difficult to get onto the Support group.

This is weird. It's been great for me today (honestly!)

    (Using the 195 proxy)

It is actually far worse tonight for me than it was during the mess up. I rarely went below 300 on giganews during that period tonight at one stage I got 12! Now noone can tell me that that is contention!

Well if you don't actually want any feedback dub45, i fail to see why you bothered to post this thread.
My friends are in Dublin city centre and I only mentioned this because I think you mentioned previously that is where you live so you may be on the same exchange as one/both of them...

Err eth0....he meant that you said your friends said Dublin is fantastic in the last few days, not the service.

As I have said before if UTV have to rely on non users (in this case quoting friends and no mention of the times they are talking about or any other details) to defend it then they are in a bad way.

I recently got a new computer and i didn't need to set all these MTU settings like i did with all the others computers when they were having problems.

    has it been fixed?

I had asked earlier what sort of speeds and pings was it realistic to expect at peak time and he replied:

''To be honest, I'd expect the speeds to be close to what we receive in the
    UK. On our
DSL service (50:1 contention ratio), I tend to get 40k download speeds (will
    fluctuate
between 20k-55k depending on the site, but 40-45k seems to be my avergae).
    My pings
to jolt from a dos command prompt with nothing else running tend to be in
    the 40-50ms
    range.

    the

We're not. I have some work planned for tomorrow morning to try to test
    whether
or not the ATM CRC errors are the cause of the speed issues. I had to put
    the tests
on hold because of the holidays and the fact that the engineer I need to
    coordinate
with from the other side was on leave (there are other engineers, but for
    this type
of problem it makes more sense for me to work with somebody else who helped
    design the current network).

I'll post more in the morning, but generally since we cleared up the whole
    issue
with Esat, speeds have been a lot more favourable. Pings seem to be getting
    hit
    with this CRC issue.

    Martin.

 Last night was a joke, most of my pings were in excess of 200 trying to connect to jolt, I timed out trying to connect to the UTV newsgroup to have a moan and see what was happening.

    UTV = Apocalypse Now...

or at least some bit of their network is in meltdown.:dunno:

I set up a batch last night to ping utv every 5 minutes and write the results. Check out the packet loss!! wtf is going on?
Going to set one up to download a file from heanet every 15 mins when I get home. I'll post results late tonight.

btw, right click on file and save target to download. It don't look good if you just click the link.

Just for the record things are fine now - Speedtest from Giganews and UTV all above 400 and pings seem to be quite good but its the unpredictability of the service thats the killing thing.
