I was being super-inquisitive when I was getting something sorted at the bank and noticed in a printout of my direct debits a line which had the words Government and Medallion something something "3.24" and "monthly". What on earth is that, does anybody know?

    It is what it's.

It's stamp duty payable to the government with regard to your cheque book. You have to pay x amount per cheque.

if it was stamp duty it wouldn't be monthly, it would be a once off charge
