I've been playing Carmageddon II recently - it kicks ass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,459 ✭✭✭seanos

    Teenage mutant ninja turtles {NES}
platformer - hit manhole covers back at enemies, be the first to steal that slice of pizza, spin-jump kicks... ah the days :)

Monkey Island 1+2 [still play soundtracks to them constantly as housemates will confirm]

    Little Nemo: The Dream Master {NES}
    Bionic Commando
    Darkwing duck
    Double Dragon
    Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja

Sorry so many - went into nostalgia mode ... and .... damnit, wanna go home and find NES and start playing now ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭dangerman

monkey island 1 + 2 defo agree great stuff.

carmageddon, the original + its sequel still piss over 99% of todays games.

wolf 3d/doom, original prince of persia...

    commander keen was a classic.

    anyone remember captain comic?

pango, digger ~ seriously old school and some of the best.

I think if more game designers took a step back and looked at what made these games great the quality of todays games could be seriously improved. its not celebrity voice overs or per-pixel shaders that make games great.

    Elite II:frontier followed closely by...

That was one of the best games ever so much to do you hardly needed a story and the graphics were great (for the time) so much fun

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭krattapopov

    streets of rage
    golden axe
    shinobi
    chase hq
    flimbos quest
    sonic series
    early mario
    duck hunt
    original fifa
    fiendish freddies circus

actually a freind of mine just got the sonic series for his gamecube... i found it strange to be playing such a graphically simple game on such a comparitively powerful machine... but hell we played the sonic games for ages as opposed to playing any of the new games.... all the old games had class gameplay i echo dangerman when he says developers should take a little look back and see what has come before, not to try and rip off games which has happened but just to try and spark something new off.

Along with Duke Em nukem I was playing lan games of Decent 1 and 2 back when they were released.

Navigation wasn't easy but eventually we learned how to do 3 point turns in 360 degrees. Out manoeuvring an enemy was the key in close combat even more so than say Quake or CS.

The single player was kinda fun too with the whole adrenlin rush of getting the hell out before the place blew up.

Stopped playing when Decent 3 came out as it was buggy and ran like a dog on my underspecced pc.

Commander Keen - the one with dopefish:D
    Lemmings - 'wan DMA
    Speedball 2 - superb 2 player mode
Flashback - this game is long overdue a replay by me.
Scorched Earth - 4 player secks
Doom/Wolf3D/C&C/Super Mario World/Nemesis along with countless others that i can't remember...

Super Metroid - the only game here deserving of bold tags. one of the most replayable games ever... 11 (?) years on and it still feels fresh

Yeah, Super Metroid is tops. And Duke Nukem. But I'll always have a soft spot for the Micro Machines series. I was playing them not too long ago on an emulator, and the grin on my face was wider than something really wide.
