Oh My God, I just finished reading this book,its f*ckin excellent!,if you are looking for a book to get lost in i wholeheartedly suggest this one. James Herbert knows how to write a book! Also The Fog by him is a good read,nice n scary :)

Once was ok. Not nearly his best though. It tended more towards fantasy/erotic fiction than horror.

Read his Rats trilogy (second one isnt great but the first and last are excellent).

A pity Herbert doesnt dabble in some modern day cthulhu mythos writing. I think his style would be perfect for it. Much better than Lumley's Dreamworld efforts.
