    hello,

    a friend of mine is having some problems with their network/internet connection and i am looking for some guidance on the issue.

    the problem first showed up when they got their bill and it was more than usual. on inspection of the itemization there was a series of 2.06 calls onto the internet. these calls occor several times every day. it is ALWAYS 2.06 and sometimes there are 1 second connections, so it couldnt be someone surfing the net without permission.

    maybe it is a virus? there is a virus checker and nothing has been detected. any guidance or advice would be appreciated.

    Could be a dialer.

    Start -> Run
    Type "control inetcpl.cpl"
    Go to the Connections Tab.
    Under Dial-up and virtual private network settings, delete everything but the one dial-up connection they use.

    Also look out for Programs such as anti-virus, which may be set to auto-update, and may be dialling out on their own.

    Download Adaware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Run it. Delete everything it finds.

    Should sort them out.
