flash action script vs Java2D

Id like to get into flash action script I was wondering if its similar to java? Ive experience in Java 2D graphics, simple stuff like transformation of shapes etc. Is action script Object Oriented and is it syntactically similar to Java? Hertz;)

Not really. No. Its based on ECMAscript which means that it has a common ancestry with JavaScript (but not Java). It is semi-OO but I haven't used it since MX came out. Its not too hard to learn though, and good fun.
