Just to let people know that on Sunday at 6.30 they will be having the usual free €10 rebuy for the following thursdays big game. This is because last night was dedicated to the WSOP qualifier.
Much as I hate the freerolls by now I'll probably pop in and stay for the €20 rebuy at 9.30.

This has been a public poker information announcement.

I'll probably join you at half six, don't know if I'll stay for the €20 game, I've an early start on monday morning.

    ...who am I kidding...

I'll be doing the same as Muso with an optional dinner in the middle...
I've had absolutely no joy with the freerolls since January, yet I'll be gunning for my 4th win in a row at the 20-in... go figure! I'd love to have played in the WSOP last night but hospital appointments and clucky mothers dont mix well with poker. Hey, she cooks all my meals at the moment, I know when I'm on to a good thing :):)

I will also play in the free roll and 20 in :)

The Fitz are adding a total of €5,000 to next weeks tourneys because it's their first birthday. Most events will have €500 added but the €250 is getting €1500 added.

I can cook lasagne now and chilli :D. I'll be there on sunday and possibly might go in for the 20 (if a certain bank pulls it's finger out ;))

I'm gonna try and make it in; might be a bit tricky as I'm already going out for Poker on Saturday night -- wifey may get slightly annoyed.

Bring her to the freeroll on Sunday!

Sorry have I got it right that the free-roll on sunday is the same free tournament that's on most Thursday nights?

If so, what time does it finish? do the blinds go up quicker than usual?

    Ob'

Heh...I've tried to get her interested in poker but to no avail, unfortunately. Given the number of girls playing at the Fitz in the freeroll games, I'd say they might have a slight advantage over the average guy player.

I've only been the one time, but afaik its exactly the same as the thursday game, unlimited rebuys up to a certain time, then there'll be 3-5 tickets for the €250 game.
It will have to finish before the 9.30 €20 game starts so I'd imagine the blinds will rise a bit faster than the usual thursday game.

That's not neccesarily true - because they only need 4 - 5 tables for the €20. When i got my ticket to the Vegas Tourney we were playing until 10:15 and blinds were going up no faster than usual.

The last time I was at the Fitz on a Thursday, I think there was prizes for the top 6, with 6th place getting €170 in cash and the others getting tickets. If you do end up with a ticket, can you switch it for €250 cash?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,199 ✭✭✭krattapopov

    nope

Huh ... that's crap then (at least for me) -- if through some fluke I won a ticket to the €250 game I'd be pretty much guaranteed of not winning anything on the big night; would much rather just have the €170 or whatever in cash. Even if it is just €170 you have to use to bet at the blackjack tables or whatever.

You might be able to use it for credit in the Fitz. Instead of taking the ticket worth €250 you could use €20 here and there for buy-ins to other games and stuff like that. Its worth asking the next time you're in the Fitz anyway.

True ... interesting idea anyway. Of course, first of all, I have to actually _win_ one of those tickets :)

You might be able to switch it for Store Credit in terms of 20s and 50's for entry into tournies but theres no way they are going to give you cash for it. or even chips or house chips (you could pull the Red AND Black trick on the roulette wheel and turn them into real chips and then cash out for very little risk!)

I'd recommend playing the 250 game as its a bit of an event and its a buzz to play against the very best of Irish poker (2 maybe 3 poker champs played in the one I played in). I came 35th which, while not exactly brilliant certainly brightened my day!
Its an experience and for 250 notes which you cant cash out anyway... its well worth playing for!

Casper the Thursday night freeroll is a satillite to win a ticket to the monthly 250 event, everyone knows what they are playing for - why would you expect to be able to take the money instead???

If you want to win some money enter some of the tourneys where the prize is cash.

To be honest I don't see how you could turn down the chance to play against some really top players especially if hypothetically you have won a ticket for 30 Euro or less. The amount it improves your game is immeasurable. Sometimes I wonder why some people even bother playing.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Casper's point is that he hasnt a chance at the 250 game and would rather play 12 20-in games (which to be fair, would improve his game more then one night at the 250).

Play nice Davey, just cos you have tickets until like... 2006 :p

Personally I'm playing the 20-in now more then the freeroll for the reasons you suggest! I still play the freeroll cos, well, its free innit and I'm fuckin' addicted arent I...

Got a short fuse today. I can see your point that it is just as good to use credits for 20 in'ers but he seemed suprised that he couldn't take the cash : quote"Huh ... that's crap then" - what does he expect?

Noooo! You? Cranky? About poker? I would never have believed it :^p

Well since he is handing over real money for rebuys perhaps he expected a real cash prize alternative... I dunno. :)

Personally the big game is hella fun but I prefer the bling bling if I had to decide between the two. I'm certain of 250 then... whereas in the big game I'm pretty certain of chicken and chips and thats about it :)
    I just like cash I guess :)

Mind you if you win big again at it (and with the number of tries you have I'm sure you will!) I'll never bleedin' catch you... :)

Sorry Davey ... didn't realise that after three nights at the Fitz I was expected to know exactly what all the rules / prizes were :P I don't think it's unreasonable to ask given that at the last game I was at Luke announced that the people who didn't get tickets (5th and/or 6th place) got €170 instead. Yes, I realise it may have just been to bet in the casino, but still, it's not the same as being forced to play in the €250 game.
If you want to win some money enter some of the tourneys where the prize is cash.

Again ... it was just an honest question given my view of my current playing abilities vs. possible reward - that's all.
To be honest I don't see how you could turn down the chance to play against some really top players especially if hypothetically you have won a ticket for 30 Euro or less. The amount it improves your game is immeasurable.

Well, with the equivalent amount in cash (or as Dev mentioned, buy-ins for the €20 games) I would gain a ton more experience.

Sometimes I wonder why some people even bother playing.

My apologies for clashing with your idealistic reasons for playing poker.
... but he seemed suprised that he couldn't take the cash : quote"Huh ... that's crap then" - what does he expect?

I didn't necessarily "expect" anything; I was just hoping (perhaps wistfully) that I could put the prize to better use given my circumstances. I'm obviously nowhere near your level of play and have my own ideas as to how I'd like to slowly improve my game.

You make some good points Casper - them damn Aces getting crushed last night has put my head into a spin. I think I was still in battle mode when I made the earlier posts - apoligies.

No worries; I think I may have gone over the top myself there in a few sentences and I'm sorry as well. No hard feelings I hope.

/me makes note to self to not post on boards after returning home from the pub :)

Jesus... next they'll be giving each other chips and giggling over each others hands....

Ahem, anyway, back on topic. As I said I'll be along to try and take some more money from the fitz (I had the awkward experience of explaining to my mother where all that cash came from this month since I'm not in work or being paid sick leave now!! Try convincing your ma that it is all from an innocuous 20 quid bet!!)

Any hoo... I'll be along for the freeroll... probably get knocked out and eat dinner before the 20 in.... :)
