With the new imei blacklist up and running (hopefully) do we have to contact our operators with our imei or is it already on the system

You are not required to update your handset details with the operator. At the moment, the IMEI number of your handset is sent with every call you make. The make and model can be derived from the IMEI if required. The operators use call data and other criteria to ensure that the handset is actually yours.

I would just advise you to keep note of your IMEI and that should be sufficient.

but if the phone is stolen and the imei is reported, how long does it take vodafone to take it off their network? is it straight away? and does it come off all the networks?
    Its a nice system.

The maximum it can take is four hours on a working day for the barr to come into effect on your own operator. I think its within 24 hours on all other operators, not 100% though.
