Last night, as I was watching Late Night Poker, I was contemplating about the scale of the BSOP. When I first thought of the idea it didn't seem to grand - but then demand took over and we now have 30 registered players, playing over 8 months, in 24 qualifiers, 8 monthly finals and a World Series of Poker in early 2005.

Since the BSOP has now its own season - much like a soccer season, I was thinking that a bit more structure might add to the atmosphere. With this in mind I was thinking of producing a monthly BSOP newsletter kind of a thing - published online via the forum of course!

Now I am hoping that it will include a synopsis of the monthly heats and the final (maybe even an IRC commentry for the final for those who cant make the venue), some articles on poker in general to increase awareness amongst participants - things like starting hands, general strategy etc., and I was hoping to do player profiles so that we can all meet the players (even if we dont get to play them in any of the heats).

So with this in mind I need two things.

First I need all players who are willing to send me a profile of themselves. To help you along I have listed some headings to get you started.

    Real name
    Boards Name
Poker experience - online or casino
    Any winnings?
    Poker expectation for BSOP
    Poker ambitions
    Best poker moment

Fell free to add anything extra.

Secondly, I need volunteers to supply content etc. to the newsletter - I only need about 5 in total. This role will involve providing info on pivotal moments in the heats, some poker articles/strategy etc. PM me if you are interested.

Hopefully this will add to the whole BSOP experience.

We are fast approaching the need for a seperate website. I have been toying with the idea recently because of some other webby poker related things I have been messing around with that would all fit nicely on a website. What do peeps think of that as an idea. www.Fold_NoWait_AllIn.com :)

I'll send you a profile Chris and I'm willing to provide content as long as it's not censored :)

*lol* we'd be like the Hendon mob - except crap!!
Only messing :) but the newsletter idea sounds great we could do sections like "Henbane's section on how to hang onto chips" or "When the skill doesnt matter, How to get lucky by kencleary".
We could include results from the BSOP and our games in the Fitz.
What I think could also be good would profiles of players by other people to get tips and insights into how they play. Maybe even some stuff on the non-boards regulars in the Fitz?

I think it might be interesting all right. I have noticed newstalk lurking arround so maybe we could even get a bit of publicity.

Yea, sounds good. We could have a 'bad beat' corner as well so Dev can rant! We could name it somethink like 'Dev's Bad Beat of the Month'. I like it:)

Firstly Decker, nice work on the simultaneous post. Respect. Secondly, I don’t mean to poo poo your idea the suggestion was for a newsletter. If we included a “Dev bad beat corner” it would be more like a novella.

Sounds cool; if you do want to do a website I'll volunteer any kind of design skills that are needed - html/css or scripting or whatever. Would be neat to have the monthly newsletter in a nice online format and then generate to PDF or something.

Dont you start! I still havent forgiven you! Back on your paddle-steamer...

I'll write a piece alright... It'll be entitled "Explaining odds to Lucky Luke and others so that they can appreciate that he was 21:1 against beating me." :)

It will have pictures of women's chests too. :)

Ok, so maybe I complain about them a bit ... but I hate them, I hate them so very very much :(:(

I hit the river to put you out in two hands in one evening of poker...
I was chatting to henbane and DapperGent about bad beats and I think that there is no such thing as bad beats. They just do not exist in poker.

If something is a 21:1 shot then its going to come along every 21 situations, which is not that often but it should be expected every now and then!

That time when Amp hit a diamond to make a flush on the river, it turned out to be the exact card that Mr P (I think?) needed to make a house! What were the odds of that?!Poker is a cruel mistress....don't worry DeV I'll humour you and make the appropriate sympathetic noises and nods the next time you need to tell a bad beat story... :)

Aye, in all seriousness I know they are part of poker... as DD said recently, it wouldnt be as much of a rush if the best hand when you flipped them over always stood up. I dont think as many of us would play it...

Until recently (and still primaraily) I played a numbers game because it suited my knowledge of odds etc, which means that if I get beat on the odds it hurts pretty bad as I know that 20 times out of 21 I should win...since I know this the bad beats hurt even more as I know fairly much exactly how unlikely it was!

Btw, I am just taking the p|ss you realise... I know I whinge about them a lot :)
(Oh and that was me with the house versus Amps flush... though in my defense when we both went all in I was a mile ahead with a set and he needed two running diamonds to make a flush, unfortunately one of the diamonds paired the board).

Its just frustrating to cajole, coerce, finagle and play someone into putting all their chips in, have them nailed to a cross and then see them take you out through nothing more then dumb luck of the cards...

Anyway, back on topic, I think a small group would be needed for this with a larger group of irregular contributors might very well work...
