What do think? Not sure it makes too much sense for BMW as it'll take sales from the smaller engined 3 series I'm sure. That said it'll murder the Audi A3 and Merc A Class if priced from €25,000

From what i gather, BMW will be taking the new avenue of 4 door cars carrying odd series numbers and coupes, etc. being even [1 & 2, 3 & 4, 5 & 6].
The forthcoming E90 3 series will be four door only in saloon and touring [thankfully no compact]. Sports models will be under the 4 series badge (we already have the Z4). [Apparently there will be a 4 door E90 M3  ]

Similar paths will follow the 1 & 2 series cars (see 2 series http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e81/5006470-1.html and http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums/e81/5007856-1.html).

I think the various series are distant enough apart that they won't infringe on sales of their each other. The forthcoming 3 series will start @ 2.5L. The range will however, become so large that it will significantly hit other manufacturers. I believe people will be willing to pay for the quality that they expect from BMW.

Looks mank TBH. A3 is much nicer, which is why I have a 2.0TDI on order. I must be a style over substance man because I don't care if the engines are better, I don't care if rear wheel drive is better, I don't care if its cheaper.....I would not be seen dead in one......I think it looks 'that' horrific. :D
