Hey all I'm setting up a 2 pc network in work. Its running through a router, but there is no broadband net access to run through the router.

Connected everything, installed net card in old win98 pc. Give PC's their names and connect them to a workgroup. Frontpc, running XP, can see all files on backpc and print off its printer. Backpc, Win98, however cannot see frontpc in network neighbourhood at all. Ran ipconfig and pinged all the pc's and that works grand. Is there something simple im missing?

At a guess - have you enabled the firewall on the XP box?
