Giving the high wages they are on and the lack of fight they showed this season is there many of the players that any club would want to buy.

Alan Smith - he tried harder than most.
Milner - a youngster that seemed to try very hard.
    Robinson - quality keeper.

Viduka, Barnby(yes hes still there), harte, kelly, duberry, johnston, radebe, bridges, matteo, wilcox. can't really see there being much interest in them.

I know one thing...I don't want to see Alan Smith at Manchester United.

He is a proper Leeds fan, and posed with a piece of Munich grafitti in the past, he is not welcome Manchester United, and never will be.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

And apart from that, he's shít.

I don't think many clubs will want the Leeds players unless they are stupid enough to pay them the wages they are on at the moment.

I wouldn't mind seeing alan smith go to newcastle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭kida

Didn't know that and if its true - he shouldn't be allowed play for anyone promoting such blatant hatred. I always though this was just a rumour though. Is there any proof?

Milner is the only one I can see going to United, Viduka is far too moody and lazy.

There is no way on earth that Alan Smith would even think about signing for Man Utd

I have seen the picture, I am currenlty scouring the net for it...but not coming up with anything..I might find it, if I do I will post.

Maybe, but still he is a Leeds boy too, and don't think he would actually want to play for Manchester United.

As for Viduka, he has already stabbed Leeds in the back by talking to Boro last week, I can't really see him going anywhere else.

Exactly. They don't want him, and he don't want them.

I think Alan Smith would be a good replacementy for Shearer, the only thing is his temperment, but he does put him self about well

No red tinted glasses here. Just giving my opinion of Mr. Bluelips. I've never rated him and probably never will. Viduka, as lazy as he is, is twice the player Smith is.

Do you watch the premier league at all man, come on your talking bull here Smith is a great talent, as I said a bit of a thug but you can't deny his ability and drive.

    lol

I don't mind people calling a player a thug but saying that hes a **** player because they think he is a thug is nonsense. I don't like Keano but I would never question his ability.

Agreed, Smith isn't a crap player, and a move to a club with decent players would be good for him, but I wonder would anyone want him.

He has said that he wants to play for Leeds, but only if they're back in the PL. Now, if he signed for a club lie Newcastle, say on a five year contract, and somehow, by some miracle, Leeds appear back in the PL, and Smith is in the Newcastle side against them, would he give 100% against his boyhood heroes, who he so obviously adores?

I'd have my reservations about signing him.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

smith has already said that when leeds come back up he wants to re-join them so again thats gonna make clubs feel reluctant to but him as his loyalty will be under question.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 635 ✭✭✭johnor

Ah they well sell the majority of them, it'll be tough to shift the likes of Barmby, Wilcox, Johnson, Harte but can see them moving somewhere possibly to the likes of Norwich, Maybe mick might bring harte in should Sunderland get up.

Viduka, Milner, Robinson, Radebe, Smith, Mills & Matteo will all move fairly sharpish Between now and January id imagine. Look at the west ham team that finished the season last season, I think only 2/3 finished in the team this season.

James, Cole, Johnson, Defoe, DiCanio, Sinclar, Bowyer, Breen, Kanoute, Winterburn(retired), Pearce...could be more i dunno....

Seems alot of transfer action......should be an interesting summer at elland road.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Leeds have hired someone to specifically look after the sale of their players this summer. That will tell just how many players they want to get rid off.IMO this can only be a good thing for us as it will cut the wage bill and allow us to get in players that will give their all for the club unlike the current bunch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Robinson will hopefully make his way to Spurs, and will be very welcome I might add...

Viduaka will either go continental, or O'Leary will prise open Doug Ellis' pockets and try to sigh him for Villa. He's still a p*ssant anyway.

Smith will sign for someone big, either Man U, Arsenal, or Newcastle.

Milner could be the best signing of the lot. I imagine he's not on great money, and with Leeds in the sh*t its a buyer's market.

Newcastle are a pretty big club seansouth?....in the top five in england. Man U, chelsea, aresnal, liverpool and newcastle?

Second biggest ground in the EPL.

Man United trolls back in force, Newcastle would be a good move for Smith, hes a quality player. Remains to be seen how he would do at another club tho, given his passion for Leeds.

One thing is for sure, he wouldnt go near ManU (and who could blame him)

Leeds are not going to sell Milner apparently

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/l/leeds_united/3682009.stm
    Leeds vow to keep Milner

Leeds have pledged to keep James Milner ahead of a board meeting to discuss the club's future on Tuesday night.
The matters heading the agenda will include player exits, the future of caretaker manager Eddie Gray and the possibility of another takeover.

Several big names are expected to leave but Leeds managing director David Richmond assured fans that Milner, 18, would be staying.

"I can categorically tell you James Milner is not for sale," said Richmond.

"James Milner is part and parcel of the affordable future of Leeds football club. He is a young player with a fantastic future."

Leeds were effectively relegated when they lost 4-1 to Bolton on Sunday and Alan Smith and Mark Viduka are among the star players expected to leave Elland Road.

Viduka has been strongly linked with a switch to Middlesbrough and his representatives have reportedly held talks with Riverside club boss Steve McClaren.

"We will be selling some of the players that our fans may want us to keep, but those players want to move on anyway - they are too good to play in the First Division," admitted Richmond.

"Quite clearly we will be keeping who we can at the football club, but this football club has got a £38m wage bill.

"The average Division One wage bill is £9.5m.

"We will not be doing any panic sales. We will not be going into administration. We are not wealthy, but we are financially secure."

Richmond admitted there was a possibility the club could be sold, with haulage magnate Steve Parkin believed to be the front runner.

"If any individual comes in with money who can do a different job to what we are doing and shows the colour of their money, and has got the long-term best interests at heart, we will talk to anybody," Richmond told BBC Radio Five Live.

The managing director also confirmed that Eddie Gray's future would be discussed at Tuesday's meeting.

"That is something, as a board, we need to discuss and come to an agreement about. We need to come to an agreement very, very quickly," said Richmond.

"Eddie Gray will have a role in the future, of that there is no question whatsoever, but as a board we must agree, all of us, what that future is going to be."

Leeds are in a very bad position here, they have to sell players to get their wages off the books, they might get fees for the likes of Smith, Viduka and Robinson but they won't get what their worth.

Most of the rest of the squad will be made available on free transfers just to move the wages.

No-one really, if he even tried to sign for Manchester United, he'd probably get lynched and hung from the Stretford End.

Everyone knows there is going to be a mass clear-out of the players but what remains to be seen is who is the manager goin to be.

Eddie gray will almost certainly not be manager
And i doubt there is many willing to take the job on as the leeds fans will be demanding a return straight away to the Premiership and have a team capable of staying there

He can't be, no proper qualifications, he was only supposed to be in charge for 3 months, but that was one of the things the PL let Leeds away with this season.

Apparently they are after Wee Gordon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

He can't be, no proper qualifications,

He could be director of football though;)

I do not think that he will be manager next season either!!!

On the players front, Robinson will probably go to Spurs(Leeds almost sold him twice last season but it did not go through because fo situations beyond their control), Viduka will probably go to Boro, Smith to Newcastle, Liverpool or any of a host of clubs linked to him.

I don't think anyone in the leeds side atm is good enough to join any of the tops sides.

If you're buying them based on their future talent, like Smith?, they're much much much much better talents to buy :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

I'd have to agree with PHB to an extent, after all, Leeds with their vastly talented players like Smith, Milner, Robinson and Viduka have in fact been relegated.

If they were so good, why have they gone down?

Bad management, bad attitude of the players, no team spirit etc.................

I only really rate Smith and Robinson anyway - Viduka is an ****hole and Milner has it all to prove

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,563 ✭✭✭leeroybrown

Smith is a very good (and young) player and will probably go to one of the bigger premiership sides. Newcastle sound like the most likely right now and with Woodgate and Bowyer being there and the combination of their transfer funds Bobby Robson's persuasive nature he'll probably end up there.

Viduka is also a very good player but seems to have a great skill when it comes to falling out with people. No doubt he'll be quickly snapped up.

None of the better players will command the top money because of the dreadful season they had but Leeds will probably view making decent money a bonus compared to removing £25M+ from the wage bill.

What they really need is to get a very good manager.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭bucks73

Personally I also do not rate Smith. He will probably end up at a mid table team. Just not good enough for the top three.

Viduka has bags more talent but he is the laziest lump of crap I have ever seen. Even lazier than Robert. Plus he has caused grief for Leeds, Celtic and Croatia Zagreb over wages, contracts etc. Most managers will steer clear of his tantrums and wage demands.

Most of the other players on high wages will be shipped out to help keep the club afloat. I will be putting a few quid on them to go straight down again.

Make that two people to agree with you porn. I think Smith is overrated. I am not saying he is crap, but he is not good enough to start in any of the top three clubs. Even Liverpool and Newcastle should have two strikers of better quality. Viduka is just trouble, and I think any club that gets involved with him ends upo regretting it. By the way I heard something the other day that I thought was absurd but have been assured it is true. Can anyone confirm that Seth Johnson is Leeds top earner. I heard he was on between 70K - 100K p.w. If that is true they deserved to go out of business. He is pure CRAP!

/me wonders if Viduka would go back to Celtic?

man united have always been interested in smith so i wouldnt be that suprised if he went to them, players can drop their loyalties quickly when they realise whats at stake by playing in the nationwide

birmingham and liveprool both seem to want him. oh and yes he is a very overrated player i do not see what the big fuss is about

you can expect sunderland to try and get some of the irish lads

robinson will go to a premiership club probably spurs

viduka will go to united, middlesboro or abroad to spain to somewhere like athletico madrid

seth johnson is a ****ing joke of a player how he manages to pick up 37 grand a week is beyond me he should be placed on the transfer list up at the top

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

These are the players that will be sold because of their wages:

Alan smith - no way will he go to utd)
    Mark Viduka - Probably middlesborough
    Paul Robinson - Spurs
Seth Johnson - because of his wages mite be difficult
Ian Harte - Again high wages
    Nick Barmby - High wages
    Jason Wilcox - High wages
    Michael Bridges - high wages

All of the other players will be kept because thay are not on that high wages. People seem to forget that leeds have some very promising young players at the club. Scott Carson although young is supposed to be alot better than paul robinson was at the same age. Matthew Kilgallon also a quality young player. Then we also have quality with Aaron Lennon (16) ,Paul Keegan (21), frazier Richardson (20). all of these players are under-21 internationals and will be well up to the standard of the first division.

With the wage bill being cut leeds can also try bring in some other quality players who will be able to tackle division 1.I dont think we will be up first time round as the young players will need a years experience and the team needs to be re-built but i do think they will be up the following year. Leeds have top class young players and a top class academy which has continuously produced top players. This isnt the end of leeds and they will be back alot sooner than some people think

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 635 ✭✭✭johnor

Will they be able to hold onto all their back room staff as is?, the backroom staff who develop these young talents. I reckon Leeds wont have another batch of players as good as the Woodgate/Kewell/Smith/Harte/Robinson/Bakke bunch, Wilkinson did wonders getting all these young talents in, Graham was afraid to play em, O'Leary gave em a chance. Thats how i saw it in a nutshell. Cant see leeds producing that kinda talent, getting young players and making them into top quality players costs money too....Think leeds will be back at some stage, I reckon more players will be offloaded tho....

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

Yeah as far as i know they will be holding onto all their backroom staff they are even holding onto Eddie Gray but he wont be the manager anymore he will either be assistant or first team coach.

Leeds's academy is one of the top ones in the country only rivalled IMO by man yoo and west ham. No body else produces the same amount of quality young players and i think this fact will see leeds through. They all ready hav a fresh new amount of players coming through the system that will be given a chance in the first division.Things arent all doom and gloom.they just have to ship out the high payed players

    http://www.breakingnews.ie/story.asp?j=126018712&p=yz6xy9575&n=126019655&x=
Leeds managing director David Richmond has revealed his club have already had offers for star players as they start to plan for an instant return to the Premiership.

After relegation to Division One was confirmed with defeat at Bolton on Saturday, top-earning stars like Alan Smith and Mark Viduka have been the subject of intense transfer speculation.

While Richmond did not comment on specific players, he insisted any transfers in or out of the club will all be geared to the target of promotion next season.

He told Sky Sports News: “Offers have been coming in from the very top, top clubs.

“But we’ve got to wait for the season to finish and have a look at what we’ve got and alter the playing squad to give us the best opportunity.

“We have got five England Under-21s internationals at this football club and with seven or eight signings we’ll be a very significant force.”

Richmond also sought to reassure Leeds’ beleaguered fans that the future is not so bleak as many might fear.

“Of course, we have to sell footballers. But we are fine – we have a plan,” he said.

“Next season we will have a team that will match the passion of our supporters. That is what is important. We will be able to compete and will be able to do so at the very highest level.”

Richmond is similarly adamant that under no circumstances will the club slip back into administration.

He said: “We as a football club are not going back into administration.

“That is absolutely categoric. Our board has a chairman [Gerald Krasner] who is a very well known and highly reputable solvency expert, and we are not going back into administration.”

I'd love to see eddie take over the youth academy and have strachan as manager. There are a lot of quality players coming through even tho as a fan i cant see leeds returning to the PL next season. I really hope milner stays put. I know the board say he's not for sale but if he only wants PL action? Smith is a leeds boy too and he's jumping ship (I havent a problem with smith being sold. He and only one or two others actually played for the team this season). Seth Johnson is an absolute tosser and a waste of money IMO. I had heard that story too about him expecting 15k but i heard it was 35k he recieved. Just shows how badly managed the finances were.

I'm kinda looking forward to next season. It'll be a rebirth in a way. Pity the games aren't shown on tv!!! :p

Yeah would love to see strachan and there has been talk of him joining but also talk of iain dowie. I dont think strachan will come back into management so soon tho but we can keep dreaming
