Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

When was the last time england started an international with no Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal players in the team?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,018 ✭✭✭Hairy Homer

Looks like you killed it dead with that one.

It's no big deal that an England team could take to the field without any Arsenal, Liverpool or United players. Arsenal are a French team (They used to be an Irish one, once fielding seven Irishmen north and south out of the 12 they used in a cup final but that was long ago)

United are busy getting rid of all their England internationals: Beckham gone, Scholes and Butt almost certainly going which leaves...'If the Nevilles play for England so can I'

And as for Liverpool. Owen and Gerrard are injury prone and Heskey is a fat blodge who shouldn't be anywhere near international football.

So in answer to your question: Two games ago?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

Scholes almost certainly leaving? What are you talking about?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Bannor

Two games ago they played Portugal... Ashley Cole, Phil Neville, Butt, Scholes and Owen all started that game.

someone was watching the premiership on ITV ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

I actually wasnt believe it or not. :) I missed that one, so didn't get the answer from the panel. I had to think of them myself :(

    [edit]No cheating, I have all the answers now[edit] ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

I saw the premiership myself but I still can't remember them all

    Geremi
    Kanu
    Makelele
    Desailly
    Melchiot
    Bergkamp
    Roque Junior
    Mendieta

I wouldn't have got Kanu and Melchiot if I didn't see the premiership, all the rest were easy enough.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

    Ivan Campo
    Jens Lehman
    Steve Mc Manamam

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

    Nicholas Anelka?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

The question asked on The Premiership was '...that played in a CL final'.
My question (I was asked it yesterday) was '...that won a CL final'.

So anyway, u have a few wrong. Bergkamp, Melchiot and Geremi are all wrong. When do ye think Bergkamp won the Champions League and with who?

Campo, Macca and Anelka are right. Lehmann is wrong.

    [edit]Here's my list spoilerised
Marcel Desailly - Marseille, AC Milan
Edwin Van Der Sar - Ajax
    Nwankwo Kanu - Ajax
    Michael Tarnat - Bayern Munich
    Steve McManaman - Real Madrid
    Nicolas Anelka - Real Madrid
    Ivan Campo - Real Madrid
    Claude Makelele - Real Madrid
    Roque Junior - AC Milan
    Ibrahim Ba? - AC Milan
    Raul Bravo? - Real Madrid
    Javi Moreno? - AC Milan
    [/edit]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Why is Geremi wrong? I always thought he won the CL.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

Did he? I'm not 100% on him. Was he with Real when they won it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Ba was at Milan when they won the CL but I don't think he got a meda. Swap Ba with Geremi and you have it, i think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

Yeah I think yer right. I knew he was recalled the season they won it (ie last season) but he probly didn't get a medal. So yeah, might aswell throw Geremi in instead...unless there's any objections...or proof that he wasn't with Real the year they won it.

Man do I regret asking that question...I'm knackered now :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Geremi scored for Real in their 2-1 defeat to Bayern.:)

    Here's a hard one.

Name the 2 former England internationals that played for Everton, Liverpool, ManC and ManU?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Bannor

    Here are my 12:

    Arsenal - Kanu (Ajax)
Bolton - Ba (Milan), Campo (Real Madrid)
Chelsea - Desailly (Marseille, Milan), Makelele (Real Madrid), Geremi (Real Madrid)
Fulham - Van Der Sar (Ajax)
    Leeds - Junior (Milan)
Man City - Anelka (Real Madrid), McManaman (Real Madrid), Tarnat (Bayern Munich)
    Man Utd - Barthez (Marseille)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,164 ✭✭✭Space Coyote

    Man Utd - Barthez (Marseille)
Did Barthez play in the Prem this season?
Ba is more than likely wrong too but we can count him in anyway. (so there's 13)

Raul Bravo (Real) & Javi Moreno (Milan) are the other two.

I'm drawing a line under my question

    Now on to eirebhoy's ...
