    BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION
    ‘HONEYMOON FROM HELL TOUR’
Live at Whelans in Dublin on Thursday, June 10th '04

    London LeGrand – vocals
    Nikki Sixx – bass
    Tracii Guns – guitar
    Scot Coogan – drums

Brides of Destruction band-mates Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns, and Guns n’ Roses founder member) knew London LeGrand could sing. The twentysomething vocalist proved he had chops and style during an audition in which he nailed covers of Motley Crue’s ‘Live Wire’ and Sweet’s ‘No You Don’t’.

The question, however, was whether the newbie could pull it off live. To make sure, Sixx booked a gig opening for Mudvayne and Taproot to see how he’d handle a rowdy metal crowd.

LeGrand struts his stuff on ‘Here Come the Brides’ (released March ’04 on Sanctuary Records), a gloriously gritty album of sneering, hook-filled gutter pop delivered with ****-you swagger.

Drawing as much from Sabbath and the Sex Pistols as from Cheap Trick and early Kiss, the Brides’ addictive debut is raw, dark, sexy, melodic and utterly electrifying.

Produced by Stevo Bruno and mixed by Steve Thompson (Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn), the album breaks from the gate with lead single ‘Shut The F*ck Up’, an unnervingly intense musical middle finger thrust at double-talking politicos. The Brides take off from there, slamming out songs of seduction (‘I Don’t Care’), mortality (‘Brace Yourself’) and rage (‘I Got A Gun’).

Among the album’s many highlights are the Queen-like harmonies of ‘Life’ (with drummer Scot Coogan on lead vocals), the raunchy blues of ‘Natural Born Killers’ and the heart-melting ‘Only Get So Far’, which Sixx originally penned for Grammy-winning country couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

“We’re not trying to fit into any current scene,” says Guns. “The goal was to write great timeless rock songs and we accomplished that. We’ve created a sound with a ring all its own. People are gonna freak when they hear it.”

Tickets for Brides of Destruction at Whelans on June 10th are €18 (inc. booking fee) are on sale now from Road Records, Soundcellar, Ticketmaster and usual outlets. Special Guests to be announced. Doors: 8.00pm.

Why would you want a bigger venue?

I think it would be better to see a band like this is a smaller venue as I think it would add greatly to atmosphere of the gig.

If I remember correctly this performance was cancelled at the last minute due to some kind of technical problem and we never got another

My friend who was coming over from Liverpool for this gig met the guys at Download the weekend before this. They had no Dublin gig on their tour list. The gig was never actually organised!

That's unbelievable. I remember hearing a cancellation report and everything to do with the lightning or something stupid, the promoters even sold tickets for it because I have a stub somewhere....

Yeah I had my tickets as well, was looking forward to their gig, but ended up getting a refund in soundcellar on the day of the gig. Their first album was brilliant.

It was. Great memories. Their second album had promise, but to be honest, I ended up liking most of the songs Sixx had written before his departure. I'm not sure what, if anything, Ginger would have added to the group. The fact he'd joined, wrote a few songs, and then left...only added to the shamanistic nature of the band.

Going to see L.A. Guns next month, maybe Tracii will sign by BOD album lol
