Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not sure if anybody can help or if im posting in the right area. My girlfriend has to got to Dublin for the weekend and is looking for a hostel to stay in. Shes a little nervous of this as some hostels seem a little "open" in their guest habits. A friend of hers stayed in a hostel in Dublin lately where she said there was shared shower areas and im a little anxious to ensure my girlfriend does not book at this type of hostel. Is this common or is there only one or two where this is this norm? I know they need to make money and space is probably limited but a little privacy wouldnt go astray would it?

Any suggestions on good or dodgy hostels would be appreciated.

Jacobs Inn behind Store St Garda station is pretty nice, they have a web page, you should find it easily on google.

I'm afraid its unlikely to get an unsuite in a hostel, but Bewleys have rooms from only €79

what I meant was that the shower area was shared by boys and girls, three cubicles. Is this normal and is it used by many hostels??

Some hostels have separate male and female shower areas but many don't - however, all of the hostels I've stayed in have had separate cubicles in the shower rooms, i.e. anyone could use the showers but each person had their own privacy by means of a separate cubicle.

So your girlfriend will be grand. I think that's all the privacy needed to be honest. Who cares if there is a guy the other side of the shower door.. nothing is going to happen. The majority of backpackers are decent people and hostels are no dangerous than anything else. Especially somewhere like Dublin, where everything costs a bomb, hostels are the cheapest option. Try www.hostels-ireland.com like someone else suggested.. all of those hostels are approved by Bord Failte and each is subject to internal inspections by the IHH organisation. So don't worry!

My suggestions in Dublin would be Jacobs Inn or Isaacs if you need somewhere near Busaras, the Abbey Court (at O'Connell Bridge) or Barnacles (Temple Bar) for somewhere really central, or Globetrotters on Gardiner Street for somewhere pricy but pretty luxurious as hostels go.

    Hope that helps.
