Anybody heard the name and/or position of the "top official" in question?
Top AIB official goes on paid leave

RTE News has learned that a top official at AIB Bank Headquarters in Ballsbridge has gone on paid leave, pending the outcome of the independent inquiry into the overcharging of its foreign exchange customers.

AIB said earlier today that it will set up an independent investigation into the overcharging.

In a statement this morning, AIB chairman Dermot Gleeson said a 'person of undoubted independence' would be appointed within a week and the investigation would be completed by mid-June.

AIB said the reimbursement process could not begin until August, as systems had to be developed.

Mr Gleeson apologised to customers for the overcharging. On claims that the bank was blaming junior staff for the problem, Mr Gleeson said nothing in the information available so far suggested that responsibility lay with junior staff.

AIB also confirmed that it would be able to identify at least two-thirds of the customers affected by overcharging.

Meanwhile, the financial regulator IFSRA has indicated that the amount involved in AIB's overcharging of some foreign exchange transactions could be close to €20m. The regulator has begun an in-depth investigation at the bank.

Just check the financial jobs on Friday. Thats what happened the marketing guy in Ulster Bank (thousands of records were thrown out with the ordinary rubbish instead of being shredded).
