Ladder storage

Has anyone any ideas on how to store a ladder in a secure position? I'm going to buy a typical aluminum extension ladder and folded up will probably stretch to about 10ft. I don't have the room in the house to store so I was thinking of outside, but don't want to give the burglars an easy opportunity either. Any ideas for securing it?

Bicycle lock or chain through the middle of the ladder to a drain pipe and left lying down. That way the ladder cannot be extended or propped against the wall

that's all we ever did when I used to work for a painters. Given that you'll have yours permanently by the house, maybe fix a steel bracket to the wall so any would be burglar doesn't wreck the downpipe!

I'd go for the bracket option - friend of mine has his drainpipe sawn off !

Something like this : Wall Bracket (7th pic down).
Get 2, mount the ladder and then lock the bracket.
