That was posted in all seriousness and consise. i understand smiaras' original point, but this thread has split very firmly into two groups - the mods who are fairly pissed at the idea of this segregation idea and the users who have had prior complaints about a specific mod or two and thus use threads such as these as a place to air their anger, and use this as a main arguing point.

By the way i think you're misconstruing my use of the word passionate - i dont mean i'm actually sitting here getting worked up, but i am putting my points across in the same way i would in an argument if someone a) had decided to attempt to bring me into the focus of the argument by copying and pasting something said before completely out of context and b)come up with the beauty that is

come back and have a go at me later when they've dropped son !

I mean in all fairness, if someone writes the above can they really expect me to take them in any way as the "mature adult" that they refered to earlier in their post?

There is a sense of intimidation from the mods though

Only if you allow yourself to be intimidated. After all, as you pointed out, it's only the internet. Looking back, after only a couple of posts in to boards I went all "fight the p0weh" because I didn't like one of the mods actions. I got shot down for it on Admin/Support by a few people, including mods. Whether that was fair/unfair isn't the point - the real point is that it didn't intimidate me because I didn't let it. It's only the internet after all, not reality. Two and a bit years later I'm still here, and certainly not intimidated.

I'm glad you appreciate humor to be honest but mine is much bigger than yours !!:D

I posted that looking down the barrel of a 10 hour night shift so I probably wasn't at my "nicest". In fairness though crash you did light on me in particular in your first post on this thread which I thought was a little unfair.
BTW, recourse? What action did you take to attempt to get recourse?

Long story but it contributed to getting me banned from the soccer forum - hence the sig btw !

Stopped reading after 2 or 3 pages of painful soapbox arguments.

This thread is a shining example of how far boards has come and how badly it is affected by having to pander to the lowest common denominator.

Smiarias, its ironic that you are suggesting this and pointing to the fact that mods jump on new posters for posting things that have been posted before when this topic has been done a few times over the last few years. Nice to see you brought your banned buddies along for the ride too. No axes to grind there!

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

The same topics will come up and the people that are here years might not give you the replies you want. Answering the same things again and again gets on people's nerves. If you want that changed, an overhaul of the way the internet in general and all message boards work is in order.

Your complaint isn't against mods, it's against people that are here longer than a few months. It just happens to be the case that people that stick around longer are more likely to be made mod of boards they frequent. So what you want is a board for newbies imo (and no i don't think that's a good idea).

I'm responsible for the name change. Nobody seems to have figured out why I changed it (yet). Now, either I take you literally and see that you think I should apologise for the name change, or look at the scenario you're painting for us and think "What a load ..."

FWIW, I understand crash's sentiment. The thing of mods ganging up or being cliquey doesn't quite make sense when you watch how they relate to each other and indeed the harshest criticism for mod decisions is usually made by other mods by my reckoning. Sure there are cliques (actually, I'm not sure if that's the right word, but it'll do until I think of a better one) but that happens in any situation where people are socialising with each other regularly, and people will back each other up but generally they do agree with the person they're backing up.

If you have a problem with boards and you're going to air it here, you're going to have to be prepared to get it poked at from every angle. Some definitely aren't and fall into the trap of getting into silly rows starting to shout about victimisation and mods ganging together before an admin has even answered. In those cases I personally tend to dismiss the criticism/feedback. It's a little easier to sort out if the thread starter keeps their composure, and certainly a lot easier to moderate.

Sometimes problems are appropriate to admin / support and I don't have a problem with people PMing me if they want a mod decision looked at. I generally do fall on the side of the Mod but I will look at the situation and try to give an honest answer. Sometimes this has highlighted misunderstandings or poor decisions and a solution has been achieved. If you don't like the look of me then pick another admin that you prefer.

My point now is that a we should try and actually improve our behaviour on this forum, I'm not suggesting any solution I'm just saying that people should just take a chill pill every now and then. Some people should know better but they just don't act that way, but hey what are you going to do?

That's a lovely sentiment, but your post is not exactly a model for everyone else now is it?

I have a suggestion for it

whoever is in charge of this board

    Stop deleting our threads!

whats the point of having a forum like this when one of the mods/admins just delete a thread they dont like!:(
twice today it has happened, what are they affraid off??
If us minions are such idiots then just leave it be, but then again "hear no evil see no evil" has always been a policy that this board has adopted

    go on delete this thread:(
    :ninja:

ps sorry if i went off topic but nowhere else to air my view as it would get deleted!

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 10,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭ecksor

How about you take a hint?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13,018 ✭✭✭✭jank

Oh sorry to disturb your utopian view of boards. Is this the way to best resolve disputes among members, delete posts as soon as they are posted.

Yea i can take a hint but why cant we just discuss it like adults rather then just mods/admins deleteing threads left right and centre?

    I thought this was a feedback/bickering/suggestion board?

Its the place where you feedback to us what you like (or dislike) about the site. Dont be afraid to criticise, if you are civil and backup your point with a reasonable argument you'll find us reasonable people

Tell me what does deleting threads actually achieve. I think it is very unfair to do so as it belittles someones opinions and basiclly says "**** you I dont care". Its the high of rudeness and im sure others would agree. Mods dont do it in other other boards so why is it acceptable here. If the thread is full of **** then close it!
Deleteing it deprives others from reading what may be a very valid point and is basically a form of censorship here.

This sums up well what this boards about

You were discussing things like an adult when you posted:
dont expect any answer soon mate

Since they cant give us a decent chance explain the situation or even redem ourselves your request will be "IGNORED",
its the boards way of doing stuff i tell ya

    ??

Draupnir's post was alright I guess, but since he'd basically moved off of a soccer related thread where I'd warned him about stirring I guess I wasn't in a mood to take him seriously, so binned.

It's "standard fight the power rubbish" as was stated. Oh ****, did I agree with DeVore there? Damn, we're such a clique, you're so right, man you've found us out, I must shut you up to stop the truth from getting out.

Listen, at some point the rights and wrongs of the situation become secondary and it's just more a case of "Didn't we have this argument last week, and the week before?". Give it a frickin' rest. We can't win this one, because you'll always stick to your view of "how things are" and continue to trot it out in the faint hope that it will convince someone or shame us into agreeing with you or turn things around to suit you. But you can't win this one because you're flogging a dead horse. Why don't we just agree that we've had this argument and you're not happy with the outcome or the treatment you've received and that for some odd reason regular protests along the lines of the bit I quoted above aren't progressing your case.

Sorry Ecksor but I disagree with that. So what if the same questions come up every so often. Boards is a dynamic - it's in a state of constant change with new people joining all the time so naturally the same questions are bound to get hashed up every so often.

Yes it's all been done before and maybe you're pissed off with answering the same old questions over and over - tough ! I work in a service related industry, every fricking half an hour I have people asking me the same question that someone else asked me half an hour ago - what do I do :

    a) Throw a tantrum, bawl the person out of it and tell them "FFS I answered that stoopid question half an hour ago - are you thick ??

    or

    b) Accept that this is a new person who doesn't know how the situation works and treat the person with respect and answer their question !!!!

I know which my employer would prefer and I know how I would like to be treated so why is there such intolerance here on boards.ie ??

Oh. You mean this isn't the same jank who has gone through all this before a short while ago on the basis that he didn't like the answer he got previously? It's a new jank? Or am I missing your point?

It is interesting that you bring up the topic of new users, because the only ones I feel sorry for here are the genuine soccer supporters who sign up to talk about soccer and find out the the facility has been crapped on by the ones who went before them.

Well you see this was never really discussed before with, it was more or less swept under the carpet and left at that. Its like banging my head against the wall here

Well many feel strongly about it and im not the only one to raise this. Maybe that should tell you something. And belittleing that opinion again kinda proves the sense many of us get when trying to talk about something or raise a grip we have

This was never about arguing a point, it was about trying to get an answer to one or two questions I had. I tried rasing it on another board but was shut "conviently" before anything came of it.
Why don't we just agree that we've had this argument and you're not happy with the outcome or the treatment you've received and that for some odd reason regular protests along the lines of the bit I quoted above aren't progressing your case.

Thing is we never had this argument...hence why i tried to raise it by staring a new thread which magically absconded.
I know you have a ****ty time here sometimes and put up with crap however my gripe isnt with you or dev

All i want is an answer to a question I have and for someone to hear me out, I think I deserve that dont you?

I think I started a thread like this way back when I was only here a few weeks when I had threads deleted/edited whatever.

But one thing got my whole head around the whole "fight the power" business.

    You know what it was?

This---Its a fooking internet based bulletin board--Get over it.Its not the be all and end all of your life. You can walk away from it by pressing that little "off" button on your PC.Who gives a $hit about a petty argument you have with someone who you`ve never even met. When you get this into your head then you`ll actually start to "enjoy" the arguments etc.
My 2 pence since the thread starter robbed all the cents.

Amazingly for such a dictatorship both the thread starters of both the threads quoted in the last few pages are still here and unbanned. Ecksor, we're slipping!

You are all missing the point enormously. There are maybe 200 contributors to this forum, all of whom know wach other either online or in Real Life [tm].

There are 9800 users who could care less and are just getting on with posting on Motors or Pets or Gardening DIY.

Fair enough! But to some people an afront on their integrity or honesty is just that, no matter where it came from, and there is always a desire to vindicate ones-self.

I realise that being ridiculed by a bunch af anonymous keytappers on the 'net is not the end of the world to most people but I personally have a need to try prove them wrong or at least set them straight.

Jank feels the need to explain his actions - maybe thats no bad thing. The whole soccer thread incident was blown out of all proportion in my opinion but the excluded were never given the opportunity to clear themselves.
