Dublin Life is dead!!

    Dublin Life is dead!!

Well, they finally went and did it.

The nuts that run Newstalk 106 in Dublin, went and got rid of one of their best kept secrets, the afternoon show "Dublin Life".

It had been building up a loyal audience, and was even beating the breakfast programme for listeners, so I'm told!

But it had all the signs of coming to an end. One of the presenters, Carol Moran, left last month, and took her sweet voice to RTE Radio.

Her former co-presenter Eoin Sweeney looked set to continue with the usual regulars, but it seems that only 2 weeks or so after Carol left, they axed the entire programme.

And now they are bringing in Sean Montcrief to host the afternoon slot....I can hear the listeners tuning away to other stations in their droves. I know I will.

thats a real shame, that show often kept me sane during ****ty days in work.

It has been lacking since Carol left, although I expected them to just replace her, Im surprised they didnt... perhaps they felt a 'well known' name would boost listenership... but I doubt it (i will listen though, see what he has to offer). Maybe this is the first move by Denis O Brien since he took control.... I really hope he doesnt go about tabloiding the station, it had a great format, and shouldnt be messed with.

By the way, where did you get this from? Theres nothing about it on their site (although they still advertise the show with the two hosts). I checked the press releases and nothing... link?)

I'm sorry to hear that too. In all honesty, I haven't heard a better team on radio in a long time. There was no bull out of them, no ego at all. Intelligent listeners rather than big talkers which is what real radio presenting should be.

They did have some really interesting segments. They also had some fantastic guests on the show.

What I will miss most is Carol's really nice accent. I'm a northy and, I hate to drag this august forum to this level, her accent really did it for me.

I had heard about the demise of Dublin Life earlier in the week.

When Carol left about two weeks ago, she simply said her goodbye at the end of the show - no big fanfare, a professional to the last - she thanked everyone, and was gone! (Though, not until after they played Neil Sedaka's "Oh Carol")

Apparently, management simply told Eoin the show was not continuing, a short time after he had finished the show on Tuesday!

They haven't put out any press releases or anything. I had to scout around to get this - it hasn't even been mentioned on the Radiowaves website forum, and those anoraks usually never miss a trick.

My favourite slots on the show were Prof Terry Dolan talking about the origin of words (I'll never foeget when they were talking about sex slang, he said "I've got a bugle! Well, not really!"), and off course Clint Velour talking and singing bollox on a Friday afternoon.

And as for Carol's sweet voice - I understand we may be hearing it again soon on RTE Radio 1. Hope she's not off the air for long.

they talked about nothing on that show!!

all they did was talk and it was about nothing..nothing!

Thats a shame to hear. I have to say that Carol and Eoin were a good double act. They seemed to have a very regualr listenership and used to read out all the funny text messages from their regulars. Brian in Drummer and Dave in New York etc. Some of that stuff was even funnier than the regualr slots with CLint Velour.

I'll miss it I must say!

Yeah, its a pity - was a very entertaining slot - my favourite slot on Newstalk in fact - but it hasn't been the same since Carol left. Eoin's good but needs that foil.
Best of luck to Sean - will listen hope it goes well and they continue with Eddie Bannon and Clint Velour etc.

On a side - I used to really like Dara O'Brien' flipside after McWilliams in the mid-morning. Although most of the fill-in bits he's done since haven;t been as good.

    What I know is this...

She's been seen in RTE Radio, and might be doing some on-air work in the short term and some production work in the medium term.

I don't think we have heard the end of her.

She had a very cool voice I think - no ego there, perfect afternoon listening when I was trying to stay awake until the end of the work day.

Don't think the regulars like Prof Terry Dolan and Clint Velour will work anything like as well with Montcrief - he seems far too involved with himself.

Thank god. I really didn't like that show at all. Compared to the other programming it was really quite lightweight.

Did anyone hear the replacement that kicked off today?

was sorry to see the end of eoin and carol with dublin life, the moncrieff show seems to be aimed at an older audience

I saw Montcrieff got a roasting in the radio reviews in the Irish Times on Saturday. It said you could tell there was no resources put into it, reporter Henry McKeen "shouldn't have bothered" and the whole thing was a bit of "a shambles".

Makes you wish Carol and Eoin were still on. I haven't heard much of the new thing. Are the old reliables like Clint, Prof Terry and Matthew gone?
