Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was just wondering about this today (was watching Kill Bill), and I was watching how many people actually believe in revenge, and under what circumstances. Personally I don't think I'd be bothered, but under different circumstances I'm not sure

personally i only do it on the weekend

    It exists.

I've been on the receiving end of it.

(Not that it was well-planned, just a sort of pointless set of unlucky circumstances for me that someone else then took unjustified credit for.)

From my point of view, being "venged-upon" just made me think more sort of "...what? what did you want to go and do that for? ah jaysus how pointless was that " as opposed to the sackcloth and ash penitence I'm sure my venger hoped I'd feel.

A desire to wreak it myself? Nah. I can't be arsed.

I'm with Merc on this one.

    Everybody gets theirs, eventually.

And you dress up as Data for the rest of it.

Of course I believe in revenge. If some guy kicks the crap out of your dog, you'll either beat the crap out of him or call the cops.

revenge is a dangerous thing but sometimes you cant just lie down and let someone walk over ya.

id have a limit and if someone done something that went over the limit id seriously want revenge.

i think that most people mightnt go looking to get revenge but would take the chance at it if it arose.

Its warranted on occassion but I get bored of holding a grudge. Whats the ****ing point in hating someone for so long, its takes up more of your time than what they are actually done to you in the first place!

"Revenge is a dish best served cold"

    -- Ancient Klingon proverb.

Apparently originally said by Pierre Ambroise Francois Choderios de LaClos (1741-1803). Originally in French in his 1782 book Dangerous Liaisons.

"La vengeance est un plat qui se mange froid"

So there with all this trekiness! :)

Unless of course he was related to Jean Luc Picard... hmmmm :dunno: :)

I'm fairly sure most people are aware that, while it was used in star trek, it wasn't originally from star trek.

I believe that revenge is not a right (especially revenge of a state ((ie. Corporal Punishment))) and that one who commits it should be ready to face any consequence.

Oh but this one time, a guy took my seat when i went to the jacks so i murdered him, his family and his dog. What a ripping good laugh.

I prefer the term poetic justice. It sounds more legal.

i'm not sure if i did either, but you haven't heard shakespear either till you have read it in the original klingon apparently.

that revenge quote was also the best part of kill bill vol. 1 the rest of it kinda sucked

I believe in natural justice..like voodoo dolls and hexes

tbh, i believe that for each and every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, or what goes around comes around.

lol, I like it! I never got past the first "Conversational Klingon" tape! Bit of a contradiction in terms though... :)

yeah in my uber trekkie phase i wanted to learn klingon but never picked up the dictionary, i also wanted to pierce my ear and get the bajoran ear ring, that never happened either. there is a klingon version of hamlet knocking about though in both klingon and english

Anytime I intend on revenge, or vengeance for that matter, I cool down before I do anything and forgive the offender. So I cant serve it cold.

    firm believer in karma.

Well said peachypants, but revenge is ok too. It can be justified, I mean it doesn't have to mean murder or maiming, could just be a simple case of stealing someone's drink because they did it to you. Yes, I can be a cruel drunk

yea sometimes its harder to be the bigger person and just let the universe pay them back. i think it depends on how badly they wronged you. but i do try to always think that what goes around comes around and they'll get theirs. :)

There's nothing like revenge for getting back at people.

cant see how anyone can justify saying its never justified. its definitely justified under certain circumstances

remember that poor lad in gladiator.

My sentiments exactley...everyone gets what is coming to them no need to get yourself in a mess making it happen before its time, then it would only come back to you again ;)

I have seen everyone that wronged me come across misery in due time, and while it is a sin to take joy in others misfortune when they have been complete jerks most of thier lives the intial news does bring a smile to the face, then I remember that everyone makes mistakes and hope for the best for them.

They say that when you choose revenge you should dig two graves.

Revenge doesn't make you feel better long term I suppose. However short term it's often great. I am currently preparing to wreak the most horrific vengence on someone who wronged me very badly at christmas. I'm not proud of it, and although I know it's going to hurt me and make me look bad too, I think sometimes, you just have to make a point of it to preserve your dignity, if not your morals.

As yet another wise man said, never sink to their level, sink lower or its not worth your while.
