Read my words. I believe they will come true.

Committe being formed to show action agains Curtin while at the same time ensuring that no decision is made before June 11th

Soon as polling day is out of the way Aherne and his band of muppets will rowback and offer some sort of enhanced pension deal to Curtin which will see him retire in comfort and means the govt can't be accused of a 'sweetheart' deal.

I heard on the radio today that initial reports were he had failed the bloodtest and was over the limit when driving. I presume a conviction for DUI would be grounds enough to remove him from the bench?

I this a handy out for Bertie anc Co?

Never thought of that. It might prove to be handy for them alright!

wow, that would be handy for them..
let him go because of drunk-driving, and say that the child porn issue is irrelevant as he cant be fired twice over...

At this stage I'm sure most people don't care how it is done, just that it is. I appreciate that he has not been found guilty of anything, but at the end of the day search and seizure warrents are not handed out willy nilly. For one to he given there has to be a reasonable body of evidence.

I don't think I would be alone in thinking that a drunk driving, potential kiddie porn buyer is the tpye of person we need on the bench.

I have not heard any more news today/yesterday. Was there any further news?

How about "reasonable grounds for suspicion" (even if in general there's little difference)? I'm fairly satisfied that Curtin was guilty of the charge levelled against him but there are people who have their houses searched who haven't done anything.

I know what you mean sceptre, but as far as i am concerned if a sitting judge gave a warrant to search the house of another sitting judge he must have thought the evidence they already had, not counting anything they found in the search, was fairly strong.

I am a great believer in the innocent until proven guilty and support everyone's right to it, but, I do not think that an alledged drunk driving child porn viewing man should be able to sit on the bench without some manner of an enquiry.

looks like alleypally was spot on about defering the decision until after 11th of June.... but funnily enough, it was due to something out of their hands:

although its not reported here, Today FM news say its because of a letter from Curtains solicators saying he had a psyciatric problem and they were having difficulty getting directions from him.....

I dont know what to think on this.....
    sounds... odd

Sounds to me like another get out. If he has mental problems I think the government would be irresponsible to keep him in such a stressful job as being a judge. Surely it would not be good for his already fragile mental health.

Just saw this update on RTE.ie

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0526/curtinb.html

This committee being set up is a load of nonsense. They have no power to call anybody to appear before it, so what is the point other than stalling tactics.

Speaking of hearing about Curtain on the radio ... did you know that he was a well used commercial voice over artist?

I wonder how many companies were booking in new voices as soon as that news broke!
