I suppose, more importantly is that it renders the ground unstable in the medium term, as opposed to knocking down a building which you could rebuild tomorrow.

bbc.co.uk had a photo essay on what the israelies were doing that featured one of the guys actually killed when his vehicle was blown up (heavy on the human interest side )
