Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Channel 4 can this morning be viewed by Irish subscribers through the 'add channels' feature.
Enter 12422 H and save the channel called '7521'
Now go to 'other channels' and select it. It's channel 4!
    regards
    D.

The Lyngsat site lists this as Channel 4 (Midlands).

    Details were only added yesterday:

    12422 H
    tp 37

    SR 27500
    FEC 2/3

By the way, anyone heard any noises from Channel 4 or Sky
on the whole 'When is C4 coming to ROI' thing?

its not viewable on a uk FTV card, has to be a uk or irish sub, maybe an interactive feed for ch4 cricket ?, 6pm see will friends show up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 742 ✭✭✭channelsurfer

must be only on the irish card. cos its not available if you dont have a subscription the message says the best of welsh entertainment call to upgrade your sub..
    looks like s4c to me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭Charles Slane

Strange that it's not in widescreen. Still, it's real good for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,386 ✭✭✭EKRIUQ

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the first time that its been available on the Irl card,
One theory could be that there checking signals for Big Brother starting next week.

The reason its not apearing on the FTV cards is because ( to the best of my knowledge) CH4 since the end of FTV cards is only available via a subscription package.

Thank Denis 1501 for the info how did you cop it??

The screens call to upgrade, are not releated to the particular channel you have stored on a location in Other Channels. They go in order of 1 to 50 so depending on what position you have (in this case) CH4 stored in your other channels, the relevant "call to upgrade"screen appears for that position, not nesscarily relating to the channel stored at that position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭parasite

    ahhh, ok

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭mickeyboymel

Could this "test" be anything to do with the More Four channel which is due to launch sometime in the next year.

It would explain the fact that an FTV card cannot recieve the channel? If it is to be subscription based, similar to E4?

Just a thought, very exciting news to have CH4 on though, even if they are only showing cricket!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,386 ✭✭✭EKRIUQ

Maybe it could be the impossible, Channel 4 will be available to people in the Rep of Ireland via Sky,

    Wishfull thinking:D

    Hi all,
Glad you're all enjoying Channel 4!!
I wish I could say that I found it originally myself but I didn't........I was tipped off by Christian over at Lyngsat and he heard it from someone who scans all frequencies every day looking for new channels, tests etc. He's the guy who deserves the credit, not me. I only passed it on to the masses!!
    regards
    D.

    Big girls game

Channel 4 still there 1 day later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,542 ✭✭✭JTMan

    Still in the clear :)

So the reason why CH4 has not been on the IRL EPG to date is to do with programming rights?

Me wonders if this has something to do with the 3 year contract for Friends and ER is coming to an end with RTE (Right??).

    Anyone contact C4/Sky?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 214 ✭✭arkles

i posted a reply somwhere a month ago, at that time i had been informed by a sky agent that ch4 had a deal done with sky for irish carriage, but the date i heard for transmission was oct/nov

I'd very very strongly advise against that

When people contacted Sky demanding that ITV be on the Irish EPG at a time when we could see it through other channels-
They cut it of!!! and we haven't seen it on Irish cards since!!

So my advice is do not contact sky or ch4...

Be thankfull for what you got and dont disturb the Giant

I have Never seen girls play the oul slow hurling .......Never.

To really appreciate cricket one must head down to the Oval on a Sunday in August at c 10am . That would be day four of a five day test where England have been losing since Thursday lunchtime and are trying to grind out a draw.

One then ends up, by 7pm scuttered, in a pub outside. The rest of the pub are as bad and were all at the cricket all day.

One wakes the next morning very very badly hungover, chronically dehydrated and sunburnt.

One does it again the following year.

Thats cricket. Its not the same on telly.

Do you really think Sky are not aware of the fact the CH4 are broadcasting/testing?

It's not as if they will come in on Monday morning and say "Oh crap, we have been broadcasting in Eire all weekend".

They are obviously testing. Having said that PLEASE DON'T RING SKY!!! :D

Let's hope it is the start of CH4 in Ireland.

Im glad everyone has kept quiet about this,
this hasnt reached Digitalspy and i think its best that it doesnt.
Ive lost count of how many freebies and "tests" which have been shut down by massive threads on there which are seen by people in power who promptly pull the plug.
The title of this thread remains onimous as well which is good.

Its funny when you stop thinking of things and then there is action, like the whole UTV/Channel 4 debacle, resoloution is surely coming.
I think someone hit on a good point earlier that a possible reason why we have had no 4 till now is because the issue of RTE and their rights to show Friends.
If i found out that was the reason i had to put so much blod sweat and tears into getting FTV cards the past few years OILLLL FREAK.:D

    They mightn't know...
All this may have needed is a tick in the box receivable on all family pack subs and higher instead of the nuisance of opening another window to tick the don't receive in ROI box.
An engineer does that not the directors/programme controlers or anyone who would be on the receiving end of an email from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,726 ✭✭✭✭DMC

I really think people shouldnt get wound up, saying that this is the coming of Channel 4 on Sky for RoI customers.

Until proved otherwise, its testing and nothing else. I believe we are as far away as ever from Channel 4 appearing on a domestic RoI Sky setup.

Big Brother is on in a couple of weeks, they must be firing up and testing frequencies for interactive feeds. And no, this is no indication that we'll get BB this year either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 742 ✭✭✭channelsurfer

have to agree with dmc here its probably just interactive testing the feeds for different channels.. has tony heard any word .. he usually is the one who is close to sky on these things?
