For now I've started collecting the 3d models that'll be needed for the CG shots that were requested for now. I didn't start rendering animations yet, because I will first draw up some storyboards, which I will present you here. It will help giving us all a better idea what needs doing.
For now, I post a render of JupiterStation and Jupiter, which will be needed in the very first renderings of a pan animation through the solar system. NOTE: the Jupiter Station mesh I used is VERY lowpoly, and the planet in the background still needs some work to improve its texture, because now it looks like....a pancake !

ps: please post crits about the pic or ideas as you see fit ! :)

Since there will be most likely a Breen ship in the first sequence, I started looking around for such a 3d model. Actually, I've NEVER seen a Breen ship before, as far as I can recall. I also know there are no Breen meshes available, unless its a lowpoly model from a game like Bridge Commander or Starfleet Command.
I found - just as I expected - a Breen mesh on a SFC site. It's the only one I found: a Breen Warship (as it seems to have appeared in an episode of DS9 - which I never saw :D )
I redid some texturing here and there (windows !) and rendered it as you can see in the attachment below.
Since it is a very low poly mesh - which will most likely be not too accurate concerning details)this means that a CG shot of it in the movie we're planning, should not be taken from a short distance of it !! But that still remains to be seen, because we still do not have a very specific idea of camera settings and so on...

    Crits & comments welcome.

The renders look fine to me man, looking good. Draw up a few storyboards of the pan through or whatever and let us check them out as any ideas are welcome. I've gotten pms from blitz and darko about writing and directing for the project so that's good news, it's all slowly coming together. Continue posting various ideas about the story people. Another meetup in a few weeks will have to be arranged to discuss the story and get a general story from start to finish, or thereabouts, sorted out. With like, more than two people this time, eh? :-D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 90 ✭✭The Admiral

From here on, I will post all work concerning the two solar system pans in a separate thread, in order to keep this thread as the central "organizational" thread, the nerve system so you like :) This, because there will be a lot of attachment posting of pics, animations and storyboards.

So if I having something new to share with you, guys & girls, I'll post it for comment in the thread SOLAR SYSTEM PAN

Excellent man had a look, looks very good. Also people, check this out, a guy over on the vid/editing board has offered his help with editing and can loan a €4000 dv cam to the project!!! It's all coming together now. *rubs hands with glee*

 4,000 yoyos want to be careful with that it’s a well know fact the more expensive something is the easier it shatters into 100 pieces

Lol dont worry, i reckon he'll be the camera man anyways, not wanting to let anyone touch his pride and joy ;)

    € 4000..... that's almost as expensive as mine :D

Yes i think we should have the 28th century section 31 guy as a tragic character, as that'd add more depth to him, he's out to complete a mission... fails, decided to destroy the federation itself by perhaps setting off a bomb in dublin, the movie could open up with the destruction of dublin... then revert back to telling the story, reversing the timeline, saving dublin, most of earth, and the federation along with it, that kinda thing. Raises some interesting story prospects. All good ideas folks, keep them coming.

Does it have to be Dublin. Can it not be an unamed city. This could open up a lot of possibilities.

Say for instance the city he crash lands in is the city where the federation was born. What if he had a dual mission, destroy the federation in the future and if that didnt work travel back in time and kill the ancestors of the men who set up the federation as well as the men who built the first intergalatic vessel.

With a little work it could make for an interesting story.

Interesting but no i reject that idea outright. The whole idea of this project is to have something trek based in ireland, and mainly dublin. That was my whole concept for the idea in the first place as i've never seen another fan movie set in ireland, so i decided to make one myself. I dont mean to be put down about it or anything, if this were another project i'd take it on board but that's already been done in DS9 too, they travelled back in time and the guy who as trek history records was supposed to have founded the federation, was killed and Sisko took his place. Sorry man as i said i don't wanna be a pr*k about it but the idea of this project is to have a trek story based in ireland, that's all.

are the starfleet people followed back in time by any "bad guys".

if they are (i think they should be), what about if the starflet people have no choice but to break the prime directive and ask locals for help, telling them there from the future?

that could add a good half an hour on to your script there.

ignore me if its a crap idea.

Concerning the animations of the Solar System Pan (see also other thread "Solar System Pan (Dublin Movie project)") I have a question for you, Trekkers:

Are there any spacestations or outposts at Pluto or Neptune ? (like Jupiter Station for example)

Thats no problem. The whole point of a group of people discussing a script is to come up with ideas, analyse them and then critise them. I wasnt plagerising DS9, I never really watched it. As for setting it in Ireland I didnt realise that it was central to the plot, so apologies.

I was wondering if you have started a script yet? It just that the idea intrigues me and I started writing a few lines today.

I hope you dont think Im hijacking your baby or anything. Im not it just that I have tried to make short films before and I know what a nightmare it can be.

How about a group of us getting together to discuss the project. Ill hopefully be in Dublin the Monday and Tuesday after Oxygen.

Well that's been the plan anyways, for us all to meet in some pub or whatever and get a story down, then scribble up a first draught script or whatever. It just hasn't been decided when as i have the leaving cert coming up and that kinda thing, but i'd be free during (a weekend maybe) and then after, which would be july and august, as im in college in september. I had originally hoped for filming to start during the summer but that doesnt look very likely anymore to be honest. And yes, it being set in dublin is central to the plot. We have a basic idea tho and are sticking to it, ya know, about the section 31 guy who accidentially travels back into the past and decides if he can't destroy the treaty with the fed and the breen (and or dominion) then he'll destroy earth in the past (2004) cue me having to figure out how to film parts of dublin, then showing them exploding, whatever. I had the idea of showing dub exploding at the start of the movie, just the sequence itself, fade away, then fade in the pan through the solar system, will all the credits and stuff for writers... directors... cgi artists blah blah blah... then a fanfare (people who've heard the intro music know what im talking about) of that familiar trek sound and the logo (which hasn't been drawn up yet) of Star Trek: Crossing The Threshold. (Which by the way, the name itself, nobody has given me any ideas on. I thought it up the other day, does it sound ok?) Anyways that's about all we have on the story. Only other thing is, that during the movie, the guy from section 31, with our fed guys trying to track him down, by scanning for residual tacheon emissions (other than their own) whilst the sec 31 guy (from the 28th century) tries to build a beacon to send into the future for his companions to rescue him using old parts (cue him walking in and our of peats and maplins and that kinda thing) from phones... computers, that kinda thing. I've loads of old computer stuff at home so we could bung something together and solder wires to it to make it look like it's just been built, or whatever. That kinda thing. Those are the general ideas i'm sticking to anyways, that myself and data came up with, and we can work something around that for a good 2 hour story (which can be wittled down, if needed). Ok rant over.... other people reply now :P

About possible titles for the movie, I have been thinking about it :)

Star Trek: Threshold (it's shortened and more effective, I think)
    Star Trek: Wake of Time
    Star Trek: Time Incursion
    Star Trek: Incursion
    Star Trek: Home Incursion
    Star Trek: Timequest
    Star Trek: Timeclash
    Star Trek: Breach of Time
    Star Trek: Timebreach
    Star Trek: Timecrossing
    Star Trek: Timecross
    Star Trek: Crossroads
    Star Trek: Cross of Time
    Star Trek: Timebend

Irish Star Trek porn, now there's an idea. He has travelled back in time to love and leave the most prominant females in history. See how he seduced Joan Of Ark, abducts Emelia Earheart (spelt wrong) and shags her rotten, watch him plunder the Amazons of ancient Greece... blah blah blah. Ok no... i think we'll stick with the Irish Star Trek movie, eh? hehe.

Oh you can't have that. Didn't she turn up in Voyager?

Is the film going to have some comedic moments? Trying to get food out of a microwave, without acutually placing any food in it.

I was thinking if, what if in the future we have evolved in such a way that 21st centuary food and water would be undigestble to some one from the 28th centuary. That way we could add some suspense by having the guy working to a time frame. He can only go so long without food and water or he'll die. Maybe he could lastc a week or two.

Or what if in the future all people have to take a steroid and without it they will die or if our athmospher was differant to that of the futures and it was slowly killing him?

Braxton survived for 20 odd years on earth up untill the year 1995 without any of those kind of effects. It would add interesting aspects to the story but gotta try keep it canon. Although i do have ideas in my head for comedic moments... like they go get some food in a fast food place (Eddie Rockets maybe... mmmm...) and one of the guys (or girls) keeps ordering chocolate cake cus it just tastes SO much better than that 'replicated crap'. Or something like, trying to use a lift and banging into the doors or something, expecting them to open. Simple trekised stuff like that.

Hmm... I was wondering when this was coming back up, lol.

How's things going with regards to the entire thing? If you want, I can act to some degree, as I had some drama experience ages ago, then again I do have 3 years of ST RPing under my belt, and some experience in front of the camera, from the paranormal investigation I participated in. I can help out plotwise also if you like?

I'd be willing for a meetup, but I'd need to know when you'd be going up to wherever to discuss it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Nothing has been sorted out meet up wise yet. But there will be one, after the leaving cert tho cus i gotta concentrate on that for the moment. Basically Ken, the story at the moment is that we have a guy from belgium who will be doing all the CGI for us, a guy from another board (the vid editing board) who's a non trekkie scum (joke) but is willing to be cameraman and loan us his video editing skills and the use of a €4000 dv camera (big ass thing it is too) and €700 boom mike. I have a guy in canada who can do the video fx that i cant do, phasers really that's all, but im sure he can be replaced as he doesn't seem very enthusiastic about the whole thing. There have been a few storyboards drawn up for shots if u wanna check over the older pages of this thread and also check out the other thread concerning the opening CGI shots of the movie. No full proper story has been drawn up yet but we have a basic concept and just need other ideas and fill in the gaps, that kinda thing. Read over the last few pages anyways for story ideas that we've had so far. You are more than welcome to submit anything on here to see what people thing, and to come to one of the meetups when they happen, to get a story going, then perhaps another meetup to actually draw out the script, then i can type it up, get a few copies and we work from there. I thought this was gonna be a simple (film through the summer) thing but looks like this project will take a year or more over everyone's free time. Ohh and yes we need actorsso you'll be welcome in that area. Also if u have other mates trekkie or not who wanna take part in front of the camera ask away as we have i think it's around4 or 5 actors that we need so far, depending on how the story pans out of course.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,633 ✭✭✭stormkeeper

I dunno if I'd have any friends interested in doing this. They'd either not be bothered to travel to Dublin, can't afford it, not interested or not fit enough... Well, a combination of those 4. I'll see if I can find people however...

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,216 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Fit? hell im not fit and it's my project, lol. there will be a bit of running or whatever but not much. Check it out anyways, if not then no worries. Stick around anyways man for updates and that kinda thing alright? (By the way, im so desperate for net access at the moment that i'm sending this from an eircom demo at dixons of all places, in the square tallaght, lol.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 GayBasher

I bet this will be so **** it'll end up like Fatal Deviation. But to lend a little hand, you know you can have it shown in the IFC during the day, would be a good way to recoup costs after the making. Whats type of cameras are you using. I have a couple of PD150s, I won't let you borrow them but I could do some of the shooting if you like.

One of my friends has a really bad chest, since he had surgey twice on his lungs, hence why I say "fit".

I'll be sure to keep an eye out, I check my user cp each time I go on boards, soI should see any changes, and will respond accordingly.

Cool, I'd say it would be great of he could come along.

By the way, you mentioned something about Oxygen. I'm assuming that means you're going along?

Well guys every little helps as i kep saying. Keep in mind tho that this project is trying to work with as little budget as possible, with handouts and freebies and loaners and that kinda thing, as currently the budget stands at about 50c. I wouldnt be able to pay anyone for their work or anything but if the guy is interested we'll see what happenes. I can't see it happenening to be honest but ya never know.
