Building A Private Broadband Service

Hi All,

I remember reading here a while back where somebody mentioned that they were building a private broadband "facility" ( a group of people sharing the system, I think) to get around the reluctance of the big tel-cos to bring broadband services to rural areas.

Do anyone have any idea how this might be done?

Would it need a satellite connection?

Costs?

Anything!??

One has to wonder why the mobile companies don't put those nodes on their masts. Too much money in the status quo, I suppose.

read somewhere that the UK is now at 99% broadband availability in urban areas, so it just goes to show how far we are getting behind.

they still have some mesh networks in the UK though in more rural areas where it's still not available.
