Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have the choice of stopping over in Seoul on the way to NZ.

Is it worth a day or two? What's good to see?

Not a lot, I spent a week there in March last year, it was an interesting visit (never having been to an Asian city for any length of time before). I visited a few museums and historical buildings.

There is a huuuuuge electronics market in the city, everything you could imagine was there but prices were similar to those available here (from the web). Lots of bartering required too.

Certain parts of the city (namely the red light) are full of GIs on leave (Seoul being close to the border with North Korea).

If you get it for free (like me) then yeah, otherwise I couldn't say much in its favour.

Well, i booked my flights today, the only dates i could get include a 2 night stopover there on the way back.

So, can you recommend somewhere to stay for those 2 nights? A hostel should do fine as long as its not dingy.

I'll probably just do a city tour during the day and go for a beer or two in the evening. Surely someone here was there for the World Cup and can give some tips?

    Cheers

Nahh, cant help with accom, I was there on work and they put me up in the Seoul Plaza, amazing hotel and was only 700-ish euro for 5 nights.

There are some good Seoul tourist sites on the web though, unfortunately I deleted my links a few months ago.

As for pints, in downtown Seoul there is a TGI Fridays and in the underground shopping near the Plaza is an English pub. Lots of street vendors that sell cheap local cuisine too.

As you say, some soccer supporters may have more info :-)
