Beckhams new tattoo: risks spinal injury

Did anyone see the story that The Mirror ran at the weekend about the new tattoo David Beckham has of an angel on the back of his neck?
I've never read such utter bullsh*t and downright lies and made up quotes!
They had a quote from a "surgeon" who said "If David Beckham wants to get that tattoo removed he risks spinal injury because the spinal cord is so close to the skin on the back of the neck, that lasers would penetrate it and skin grafts could affect the spine also".

Absolute RUBBISH! If the spinal column were that delicate, people would be getting spinal injuries from nape piercings, or riding on a rollercoaster. I bet this guy was a surgeon alright...A *tree* surgeon! It's made up quotes like these that damage the image of the tattoo industry and I can imagine mammies up and down the country getting on to their sons and daughters "Why did ye get that tattoo it could paralyse you!".

    The story:

Tis a shame those remarks cant be considered slander, although it's a paper written, in my opinion, by the uneducated, for the uneducated, bought by the masses. It's really lowest common denominator stuff, suitable only for gossiping at local launderettes, and outside of Tescos.

eh, ahem (at altheus) im quite fond of gossiping outside my tescos, i am not in the lowest demoninator category. what a splendid generalisation.

Can we get back on topic please, we're not here to discuss the worthiness of the Mirror :OP

I think publishing complete bullsh*t untruths like that is up there with spreading stories that you can catch HIV from toilet seats...misinformation breeds ignorance and all that.

I'd REALLY like to know what surgeon thinks that a skin graft on the neck means you have your skin pared off so much your spinal cord gets exposed. It's obviously a made up quote.

ah you'll never stop stories being spread. it says 'a surgeon' because they couldn't get a proper surgeon who would allow his name to be published. no name, it cant be tracked, and the quote can never be proved or disproved. they obviously realise most of their readers dont care enough about the credibility of whoever said it and these are the kind of people who are easily led by tabloid newspapers. most people have more sense :)

its articles like this that give us a bad name. if you have tattoos, youre a thug.
i wont go into my hatred for tabloids like this.

my guess is they got a guest appearance by Dr.Nick Riviera (hi everybody!) for that crap about the spine. its protected (very well!!) by bone! and when do skingrafts involve the spinal cord?!

ok yes, it is a bit sensitive around that area, especially if youre getting tattooed or pierced there (christ knows ive done many an inking there) but its not going to paralyse you!

thats the funniest thing ive read today.

Hey! I never meant to say all readers of The Mirror are uneducated, but you'll hardly argue that the paper has any substance! I also whole heartedly gossip outside of Tesco's, generally after purchasing huge amounts of 15c noodles. The comment was moreso aimed at the the thousands who'll read and believe that drivel, and then talk about it outside of said supermarket chain, not employees of the franchise, and the general educated public. (/me puts away teh tar brush and trys to push point back on topic)

    Sweet lord that's stupid.

The article almost says "how dare he defile his body.. It's the public's property"
