The Irish Times reports that the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) is to be granted expanded powers that will let it pressure Eircom on the pricing it offers competitors to access its network. The paper says the powers were granted following a decision note from the European Commission, which states that the EC believes Eircom is frustrating competition in the market through "inappropriate and possibly excessive pricing." A ComReg decision is due next month on the wholesale pricing that Eircom offers rivals to access its network; the new powers granted to ComReg could make it easier for the regulator to fight any court challenge Eircom may make to the upcoming decision.
Nothing on the Comreg site about it. Knowing Comreg, they'll probably challenge the decision in the Four Courts.

"We don't want it! We don't know what to do with it! We're frightened! We're Eircom's bitches! Eircom smacks us around if we get stroppy! We don't want to lose our "bonuses"!"

    Oooooooh

You mean that Comreg will be allowed to define "A Functional Competitive Environment In Telecommunications " just like they had to define "Functional Internet Access" for 1.6 Million out of 1.7 Million Access Lines last year .

    Expect nothing....or worse. :(

In a sub article there is a mention of the new BB offering from Eircom and others. One interesting point is that Eircom apparently have 40,000 of the 50,000 DSL customers in the country. This is far short of their 100,000 target by the end of the year and it is speculated that the offer is an attempt to make up the short fall.

Fixing the crap lines and enabling the exchanges at a faster rate would also help, but that would take (more) money and effort than printing a few adverts.

Read this on Eircom.net news here EU ruling gives ComReg tough new powers
hopefully this will result in the following
    1. eircom themselves read this and realise the game is up. (I doubt it)
    2. Comreg will finally get off their ar$e and do something.(I doubt this also)

    I'm becoming an awful cynic
