Sonic Heroes is MUCK! A real dis-service to the little blue fella!

Mario is the daddy. Sonic games were good but couldn't match the mario games. The new sonic games haven't been the best. Sonics speed doesn't translate well into 3D and the GBA games have been uninspiring.

I like the characters, especially Knuckles, which my avatar suggests :)

But he should have stayed 2d :(

At the time of its release, Sonic Adventure really wasn't bad, it just didn't age very well over the next year or so. None of the subsequent Sonic the Hedgehog games went down well...

I've been playin these emulated recently. (ah the memorys) but 1 of my fav things about these games (well the 1st two) was the time trial challenge. So far i've managed 29 secs for sonic 1 on 1st level and 24 secs for sonic 2 on 1st level.

Far as i remember my all time best was 23 secs on sonic two 1st level using tails only! back in the days of my megadrive. I could never work out why i could do it 1 second faster with him but i havn't managed a repeat performance yet.

i wonder if its a world record. I read in a mag once that the time to beat was 25secs but that was years ago.

Any1 else have any sonic speed records they want to share? :D

used to love playing multiplayer sonic2, especially the psuedo 3d one where you had to jump to get in front, used to love feigning to jump so the other person would, and would jump into the mines losing lots of their rings :) mis-spent youth tbh

HUGE SONIC FAN....love all his games.

His sonic advance games lack the polish that sonic3 and knuckles (the best one) had. The levels are uninspiring and lacked that development of story.

I think Sonic is the perfect non dialogue story game. You read the background in the manual and the story is told perfectly in just the levels and bosses of the game (example =sonic goes super arrives on island knuckles steal emeralds, sonic chases, boss sets fire to jungle and on and on) the levels connect smoothly, and this existed in sonic 1 and 2 to a lesser degree. But in the advance games the levels are all the same except with different themes, the levels in the MD originals played differently which was great.

Sonic in 3d...I dont think its that bad. The problem is not that he didnt translate well, its just they tried to take too much from the original Both Sonic Adventure games are the original Sonic 2 + 3 games done up in 3d, the games i thought were enjoyable (except sonic adventure 2 had too many blasting areas)

Sonic Heroes i feel is too much like the advance games (the running bosses, the same level style different texture feel)

I think they should make a sonic MMORPG...if you want details on how i can pm you my guide that i posted on a sonic board...
    One thing i cant understand:
Far as i remember my all time best was 23 secs on sonic two 1st level using tails only! back in the days of my megadrive. I could never work out why i could do it 1 second faster with him but i havn't managed a repeat performance yet.

how can you be faster in sonic 1 then 2? The levels are longer in sonic 1 then in 2. The levels were shortened and speeded up in 2. You should in the right mind complete a sonic 2 level quicker then a sonic 1 level. Also the reason you can do better with tails is that he is (if you choose just him) A better jumper then sonic and therefore you can do much better at those leaps of deaths then with sonic. I think my record in 2 is 21 seconds. but my fav is completing sonic 3 with tails in 45 minutes with all the emeralds. Completing sonic 3 and knuckles with all 14 emeralds in 1 hour 45 minutes. Knuckles takes longest, 3 hours (slowest character with more complicated routes) Sonic is just under 2 hours for the whole 2 games with all emeralds (sonic is the longest game, but also the character i am most comfortable with and can race full speed through it...)

    muhahahaaaa(<insane)

My record is 27 seconds in the first sonic 1 level on the in game clock. I can't do any better. Therefore no one else can :p

Preferred Sonic 2 blitzkrieg. It was much longer than the others and had the most replayability. I beat Sonic 3 on my first go. However I liked Sonic + Knuckles. Sonic 3 would have been a far better game if they had released it with all the Sonic and Knucles levels like they originally planned to make a mammoth sonic game on par with mario world in terms of size.

Sonic is a great character but they really need to ditch all the other friends. They just aren't needed and distract.

Sonic shouldn't stick in 2d. After playing 1, 2, S&K, Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix and the three GBA games I think that's been done to death.

What we need is a decent 3d Sonic game. Yuji Naka/Sonic Team USA just aren't any good at it. Amusement Vision are the team to do it. A dash of Super Monkey Ball, a dash of FZero and an injection of arcade simplicity are what the series needs. It's moved too far away from sleek arcade platformer into bloated character driven adventure/exploration.

Got 26s in sonic1 lv1..the only tricky part is the start, really.
I grew up playing literally nothing but sonic... and if it were possible, I'd still be the same today :(

Shame the camera angles were so dodgy in SA1/2/Heroes. Should've really been sorted after SA1. If sonic team sorted out their camera angles, mario would probably have to find a new line of work. Yes, I meant that :P

^Sonic isn't that easy, especially in the first two games when you couldn't save and you'd be relying on completing levels in fast times and doing special stages to get continues to help keep you going on the harder levels. Maybe you thought sonic was easy because you played the first one or two levels and got bored(?)

I've been thinking, wouldn't it be cool to have a online sonic game(in 2D) with extra long levels(complete with multiple shortcuts and hidden powerups) and like over 50 competitors playing at the same time trying to finish in 1st place.

Prefered sonic to mario. Better graphics, faster, better level layout, etc. Still liked mario, although it can get quite repetitive.

Sonics were far too easy. I remember one time playing the casino zone level and wondering why I had seen only 2 enemies the entire level. The bosses were also a joke. The only hard two that posed a challenge were the sonic 1 first boss and the final boss of Sonic 2. And by the time you got to them you had amassed about 30 lives.

well its a kids game so it has to be easy

Yeah but you haven't completed sonic properly unless you get ALL the chaos emeralds

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,391 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yes but even that wasn't difficult. I remember in Sonic and Knuckles I could get them all in the first 2 zones.

...4 chances in mushroom hill and 3 in flying battery...yep quite possible...(was that with or without the sonic 3 lock on? easier with lock on cause of the extra ring at start of mushroom hill?)

its not difficult i give you that, but sonic has always been very replayable with me, no game was so played on my MD then sonic 3 and knuckles...over and over. without disatisfaction

also sonic 2 focused more on killing you with traps then with badniks and casino night zone tried to trap you in those pinball like machines until time ran out...(one point can be really annoying first time around)

Actually it was 7 chances in Act 1 and 2 of Mushroom Hill. Think I found an eight one later on. And that was without the sonic 3 lock on which gave you an extra one at the start.

Have to agree about the replayabilty of the sonic games. I played and finished each one lots and almost always found new routes through the levels.

Was anyine else very disappointed with Sonic CD. I thought it felt very rushed and the levels had no individuality.
