Iraq suddenly quiet

Could the relative quiet in Iraq mean that the Coalition occupation is approaching success and that an end of the occupation at the end of June will actually happen?

It certainly looks more optimistic for Iraqi democratic self-rule at the moment than it has for a long time.

Meanwhile it appears that the wreckers are trying to prevent even the lights from being turned-on: "Meanwhile, efforts to rebuild Iraq's infrastructure were dealt a blow Wednesday when masked gunmen killed two technicians from a Russian energy firm as they headed to work at a power station. Their company said it would evacuate all staff from Iraq.

The attack on employees of Russia's Interenergoservis company was the third on Russian workers in Iraq since last month. The latest ambush occurred as the company bus was approaching the Dora power station in southwestern Baghdad. At least five people were wounded.

In Moscow, the executive director of the company, Alexander Rybinsky, said Wednesday the firm would evacuate all its staff from Iraq."

Is that the relative quiet where at least one US soldier is killed per day, and 5-15 Iraqi civilians?
Relative to dozens of attacks by insurgents all over Iraq per day?
Continuing standoffs and battles with insurgents in Najaf?
Is that relative soveriegnty when the defense and security departments will still be run by an American? American bases in Iraq? Is that also relative sovereignty?
Face it, unless something drastic happens in the elections in 2004, Iraq is going to be an American cleint state for years to come....as was the intention from the onset.

    What relative quiet?

Iraq isn't relatively quiet....not when viewed over any meaningful timeframe.

It certainly looks more optimistic for Iraqi democratic self-rule at the moment than it has for a long time.
Yeah, only one of the top government-to-be has been assassinated in the last week or so.

If we can keep up this rate of improvement, they should be able to assemble a ruling body which can actually survive its expected term within a decade or three.

I thought you just said it was "suddenly quiet". Do you mean "suddenly quiet, except for the ongoing violence and opposition" ????

The attack on employees of Russia's Interenergoservis company was the third on Russian workers in Iraq since last month.
The wording of that makes it sound like its a growing, not shrinking number. That doesn't seem to tie with your pondering that things are getting better.

Yes comrade. Now that Iraq is safer than before like TomF claims, we feel it is the right time the run away, having toughed it through the hard times.

No not really. Hoon to send extra 370 troops to Iraq.
The defence secretary, Geoff Hoon, today announced the deployment of an extra 370 British troops to Iraq in response to "the continuing threat" from anti-coalition forces.
In a Commons statement, Mr Hoon said the deployment was aimed at boosting security in and around al-Amarah in British-controlled southern Iraq, where troops have faced a string of mortar and rocket attacks.
