Kildare, Wicklow Meath record highest land prices
    27/05/2004 - 11:58:56

Preliminary figures for October-December 2003 indicate that the average price paid per hectare (ha) of agricultural land was €14,144 (€5,724 per acre) in the last quarter of 2003, subject to revision.

Counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow (Mid-East) were the highest regional prices recorded at an average price per ha of €19,107.

This was followed by the South-East (€16,416) and the Mid-West (€14,218) with the lowest prices recorded in the West (€11,957).

The Q4 Dec 2003 figure is 8.9% above Q4 2002 but 5.7% below Q3 2003, the Central Statistics Office reported today.

The averages were calculated from returns processed by the Valuation Office by the CSO.

They are subject to revision, particularly for the most recent quarter, as further returns become available to the Valuation Office.

Preliminary figures for 2003 indicate that the average price paid per hectare (ha) of agricultural land was €14,392 (€5,824 per acre).

This is an increase of 7.1% on 2002.

The CSO warned however, that in interpreting the figures, allowance should be made for the fact that only a small amount of land is sold on the open market each year. [/B]
