    Definetly Pink floyd cumfortably numb,
and since someone mentioned zeppelin at last since i've been loving you is sheer genius along with no quarter and the insane bowing on dazed and confused.

I was wondering, what do people think of the weird little solo in Time is Running Out by Muse?

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,253 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Sometimes less is more and there's truth in simplicity so I'm going for old Slowhand:

    Layla

I dunno...off the top of me head I would say I love the solo in Soul To Squeeze by the chilies and the build up after it...love 'em! Also I know it's a bit on the cheezy side by now but the solo from Under The Bridge, when the drums kick in and Ferscante starts...mmmm...
Also the carazzy solos in Innuendo by Queen or Cliffs 'solo' in Orion

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower / Voodoo Chile
Slash - Sweet Child O mine
Lots of Frank Zappa stuff too.

Both the solos flea does on "Coffee Shop" from the one hot minute album. Also the one he does on "Naked in the Rain" From BSSM.

Portrait of Tracy by Jaco Pasrorius. Whole song is a solo.

As for the guitar....im surprised ne1 hasnt mentioned the finale to November Rain...........unless some1 has mentioned it already, and ergo i will look quite the fool.....

We're Stars? I have the video for that, plus the making :D

George is normally brilliant, but his solos on that weren't great.

    Smashing Pumpkins - Rhinocerous

Not a solo per se, but I know damn well Billly would have played the whle thing himself if he just had more arms. He did write all the music ...

**Rory Gallagher - Messin' With Kid (Live Version)**

Best palm-muting solo you'll ever hear

as a sidenote, i should mention that the best palm-muting youll possibly ever hear is on rory's irish tour album, on the breakdown on walk on hot coals, absolutley amazing

Since the original post did not specify that it had to be a guitar solo, how about the drum solo in Moby Dick by Led Zeppelin?

Lou Reed's opening solo on VU's I Heard Her Call My Name is face meltingly good. Also taken a fancy lately to Robert Fripp's work on Fashion by Bowie.

Had to be the Pogues in Semple stadium 1991.

Er no wait I was backstage drinking with Shane McGowan trying (in vain) to keep up with him - this is definitely not it. I think I watched him and thought he was brilliant at the time (I think 40,000 people thought otherwise) ;)

(This of course is bull**** - but should qualify for one of the worst performances!)
