France has new tallest bridge in the world.

    To say I was gobsmacked when I found out about the new Millau Viaduct in southern France is to put it mildly.

    Has any one here driven that road? Was this monster really necessary? Not that I'm critical of it, I'm just amazed. Some of the panoram shots almost looks like a Star Trek set it's so bloody huge!

    I'd be more impressed if it was the longest..being a bridge like. :)

    Ps given the size there are suprisingly few pics of it on de net.

    No, that goes to either one in Louisiana (~20 miles across a shallow lake) or one in Japan for the longest span.

    I've driven across that bridge over Lake Ponchartrain (spelling is wrong, try pronouncing it...), it's like a never-ending west-link.
